Today on our 2012 Toyota Rav4 well be test fitting the Curt 24 inch by 60 inch folding
cargo carrier, part number C18132. We will not be able to use the Curt carrier in the
folded up position with our Rav4 due to the spare tire so well be using it as a flat cargo
carrier. To mount the carrier to our vehicle well insert the shank of the carrier into
the receiver tube of the hitch. Well line up the hitch pin holes and secure the carrier
with a pin and clip. Next well go over a handful of clearance measurements. Weve got about
15 inches of clearance at the rear of the cargo carrier and about five inches of clearance
between the closest part of the carrier and the closest part of the vehicle.
Weve got about 21 and a half inches of space between the tail pipe of our vehicle and the
closest part of the carrier. That should provide enough distance that heat transfer wont be
an issue, but do keep it in mind. Overall weve added about 37 inches of length to the
rear of our vehicle with the addition of the cargo carrier. We also want to check to see
if we can open our cargo door completely even with the carrier installed. Because the door
swings to the side we are only able to open it about halfway before the door makes contact
with our cargo carrier.
