I'm about to tell you a whopper of a fish story.
One day, I was headed to the lake when I got an email on
the computer from a company.
But you see, it really wasn't a company,
but an internet crook.
This technique is known as phishing, with a PH.
How did I know they were fishing for my information?
Because they were asking too many personal questions.
The email also had bad grammar and bad spelling.
Nope, didn't take the bait.
Instead, I deleted the message.
Next, while getting ready to leave, I got this phone call
from someone claiming to be with my bank.
You want my social security number?
Vishing, I thought, with a V. Another scam.
I knew if it was legit, a company wouldn't be asking
personal information over the phone.
I hung up.
And then as I was leaving, I got this text from I don't
know who asking me to verify my account number because
someone was trying to steal my identity.
Imagine that.
They were trying to get information from a text.
This is known as smishing.
I deleted the message.
In the long run, I may not have caught a fish that day,
but I sure didn't take the bait from
any internet criminals.
Now, last week, I caught a fish this big.
