(Art by hand) (A.A.N.Y. Friends of New Artists/Artisans of Yucatan).
Hello and welcome!
We are at the Convention Center of the C.A.N.A.C.O.,
on Itzaes street, in the A.A.N.Y. exhibition
and I would love to introduce you to the organizer of this event
whose name is Mrs. Joan Farell, she is sitting to my right.
If you follow me, I will introduce you to her.
How are you?
I am well. Welcome, welcome.
Joan, I wanted this interview so you can show us your creation.
We have done eight events, this is the eighth one.
This is the eighth event and you have two a year?
Precisely.
You have one before Easter and the second around Christmas.
What does A.A.N.Y. mean?
Friends
of New Artists/Artisans
of Yucatan
They must have originality,
interesting use of material
and excellence in execution.
As a Yucatecan and a native of Merida,
I want to express my profound appreciation for all the support
and the incredible work you are doing in this city, for this community.
We want a thousand Joan Farrell in Merida.
You have to understand that I too, am Yucatecan!
Yes, I know you are Yucatecan at heart and we see you as one as well!
All the people that are here today,
all these artisans know in your heart, you are one of us.
Thank you Joan!
Even if I don't speak Mayan.
Soon you'll be speaking Mayan, of that I am sure.
Thank you Joan! Thank you!
A.A.N.Y. supports me with the products I make
because I know they will sell at her events.
I know if I perform my work I will see it reflected in the sale of my products.
Financially she is helping me greatly
and this way I can give my children a better future,
a better quality of life
and I thank God they are attending school.
At the present time, thankful that some people know my work
I am invited to events such as the one I consider the most important,
which is the one organized by Mrs. Joan Farell
who is a person who was given to the task
of finding artisans in Yucatan.
She searched high and low and found,
according to her the best craftsmen in Yucatan.
Those of us who make crafts to culturally enrich the state.
These are not your everyday artisans,
but a select group of artisans that have a certain level of quality
and prestige in their work, which is what she seeks.
All this motivated me to be there and participate.
The warmth felt by the A.A.N.Y group is beautiful and it sells!
It definitely sells!
Every time I take part in A.A.N.Y. I have to come up with an original idea.
I want to thank Joan for placing me in this group
and may she continue to support us.
We support her in any way we can.
My deepest gratitude to her because she helps a lot of people,
especially the village people by providing lodging and food.
She helps! It's heartwarming.
I invite you to support this event that takes place twice a year,
so it continues to grow and become more successful
and our local artisans can continue to demonstrate the incredibly beautiful work
made here locally in our beautiful Yucatán Peninsula.
Thank you!
