Hi, my name is Jair Martinez and i'm a video producer.
I want to tell you about the festival of cantoya ballons which takes place in
the city of Paracho since eight years ago.
At this festival, are exhibited balloons made with paper, of different sizes, shapes
and colours.
Is quite an experience to observe these wonderful crafts, which have
a very special meaning for each "globero" (Balloon makers)
This year, I was in charge of making the official video for the festival, and there I met
more closely to the people who make the balloons: people from the community of Paracho
various parts of the Mexican Republic, and other countries, such as Brazil, France, Colombia
El Salvador, all with one thing in common: a great passion for the ballon art.
And it is there that comes the idea of making a documentary about the cantoya balloon to
make known the great work and effort carried out by the ballooners artisans.
Here is a tradition, the children makes the ballons, they form teams and gather
everything the need to make a ballon, then rise them, follow them, to pick them and
rise them as many times as they can.
We believe that balloons are an artisan work and are gradually becoming an art
when more work is put in made them, more design, more creativity
the balloons became art.
Basically this is an art, the combination of the colors, the design and the shape.
In this documentary, we will follow four teams of ballooners from the community of Paracho
and learn the process of developing four wonderful balloons, since how the idea
is born, to its elevation. Besides knowing further the tradition of more than 100
years old that exists in the community of Paracho
Is an object which causes a lot of emotions, allows the team work, is very colorful
has a lot of tradition of various parts of world, then, is very important to the diffusion
of this craft or art.
As they are looking for the balloon to be recognized as an intangible cultural heritage
this documentary will help to gather evidence because this recognition it is important.
The UNESCO must protect and should regulate when to elevate balloons and when not, because
Now the balloon is turning trendy and they want to do shows without taking into
account the climatic conditions and the size of the balloon. What we ask
and seek is this recognition as intangible cultural heritage, with the idea that is regulated
and that there is respect to the environment, as well as to the familys heritage
prevent accidents and that will be defined when to raise balloons, in which seasons
what kind of balloons if ecological without fire or if with wick, until what size
of balloons should allow, we are looking for safe balloons, is what we want
that there is a culture of the balloons, but safe balloons.
That we are recognized as artisans or artists we want this tradition to endure.
With your help we will succeed collecting the resource necessary to produce this documentary
which is required to cover production costs, post-production, equipment rental, travel expenses
and also pay the artisans ballooners and the purchase of material required for
making the balloons.
For us this documentary is very important, because we may disclose this tradition
that has existed in our community for over 100 years and it starts with the children.
I want to thank Master Ma Lourdes Elias for all the support given, to the balloon artisans
from the community of Paracho, Brazil, France, Colombia, El Salvador, and most especially you
because with your valuable contribution we will achieve to support the community of Paracho
through this documentary. 50 00:04:39,720 --> 00:04:39,970 thank you very much.
