Hey, I'm Anne Fritz of the JetSetGirls, and today
we're going to learn how to do an easy French twist.
A French twist is a simple up-do that's great to wear if you have
like say a homecoming dance coming up, or a special event
where you're wearing a dress with a ruffly neckline, or maybe
it's backless, or if you have like a really pretty statement
necklace that you want to show off and you don't want
your hair taking away from it.
Here's what we need to get started: a boar bristle brush,
hairspray -- and I'm using Pantene Classic --
and a bunch of bobby pins.
So the first step is to brush your hair over to one side.
Use a boar bristle brush because it's the gentlest on your hair.
So brush, and this is also the time, if you want to have any
tendrils coming out the front, or if you have a swoopy ***,
go ahead and pull them out.
So just pull out a nice size lock of hair like that.
Smooth that down in the back a little bit more.
So then you're going to pin your hair in the back
using two or three bobby pins.
So because my hair is on the fine side,
I can get away with using just two bobby pins.
So if your hair is thicker you might want to use three.
So put your hair about in the middle of your head
and then start pinning, like so.
And obviously this is a lot easier when you have a mirror
behind you, so you'll forgive me if it's a little messy.
And pin up like that.
So the next step, we're going to take the hair out from the other
side, and again, if you want to leave a little tendril out,
go ahead and do that, and then brush the other side back.
And there are messier versions of up-dos, but since this is
a French twist, and it's more classic,
we're going for a neater look.
So I've got all my hair brushed to the back, and again,
I'll show you, it's coming this way.
So I've got my hand here, and it's like an L.
I'm putting it here, so it gives me a wide part to go over.
I'm going over my thumb.
I'm going to cover my thumb and kind of flatten my hair out, and
then twist as I lift up, gently, and cover your thumb as well you
can, and then I'm going to start using bobby pins
and pinning them into place.
And here you want to get the bobby pins as close to the
hairline as possible, so that you don't see the bobby pins.
And another trick is to use bobby pins that are similar
to your hair color, so they don't stand out.
So for example, if you are blonde, you don't want
to use black bobby pins, and vice-versa.
If you have light hair, you don't want to use
dark bobby pins.
So now that you've got your hair pinned up,
you have this little loop still hanging out.
Now that I've seen the front, I'm gonna add one more
bobby pin to the back, because I can just tell
it's not quite pinned up correctly.
Okay, so now we've got this loop, and you're going to
tie this part into a knot.
So again, hopefully you can see, I'm tying it over.
And my hair is super long right now.
This is going to be easier if your hair is
a little bit shorter.
I think the shortest your hair can be is shoulder length, to do
a French twist, and then you're going to just kind of tie that
and pin that into place.
I'm going to have to go check this in a mirror right
now, so excuse me, and I'll be right back.
So I wasn't too far off, but if you can see,
I just kind of looped it in, just by making a knot,
and then put one pin to pin it into place.
And we finish with a liberal spritz of hair spray all over,
and especially in the back, which will be great for hold,
if you're doing this for an all-day up-do,
or are planning on going out dancing.
So now that we have the back of the French twist done,
we can concentrate on the front.
Again, my pieces are a little bit long for this, but if you
have a pretty swoopy *** that would look really sexy if it
fell into your eye a little bit, you can decide for a neater look
to go ahead and pin these back, or you could even try curling it
or twisting it, break out a curling iron, maybe just
give it a nice little wave.
I think I actually like mine better today, with all
the pieces in the back, so I'm just going to tuck those in,
and so here's the back, one last look.
And there you have it.
That's how you do an easy French twist.
Thanks for watching!
