Hi guys my name is Eleni and welcome to overly emotional cooking a cooking show that makes
delicious meals and takes them to heart. Today we're making Turkey Soup. Why? Cause
I like Turkey Soup. Actually it's after the holidays you probably
have some left over turkey so maybe this would be a good idea for you. We're Greek so we
don't eat Turkey we eat pork so I don't have left over turkey I have like turkey turkey.
Can you use any meat? I didn't really think this through.
So here's what we'll need. Carrots. Frozen Corn. Frozen Peas. Turkey leg. Turkey wing.
Some kind of flavouring…bouillon flavouring…stock. Onion.
The thing about peeling carrots without a peeler is that you realize that you're like
skinning it. Then I'll cut the carrots like this…you
know…probably. Goodbye majestic whole carrots! You were beautiful
once! You're still beautiful. I'm sorry. And now we're going to chop this beautiful
onion. Huh.
We're going to chop it length wise first. And we're going to chop them finely.
Olive oil in the pan. Obviously.
Salt. Pepper.
Paprika. And, into the pan.
Why aren't they sizzling? Why aren't they sizzling?
There it is. Sometimes the pan is not big enough and you
realize you don't have a bigger pan and so you've just stuffed them in there. You're
not a vegetarian, you're not trying to kid anybody so you season the other side! You
continue…you continue your soup! You can definitely skip the browning step
if you want and just go ahead and put them into the soup. Especially if you don't trust
me. What did I ever do to you? Alright little babies…that's good enough.
Ok. Pan work is done. We have not turned off the stove, there's the pot. We're going to
use this oil. All the onions are going in.
Again with the no sizzle. Pepper. More paprika…and thyme.
Hey…do you have time for..for thyme? High five!
And hot sauce. I put that beep on everything. That hot sauce is potent. I love it!
Concentrated beef stock goes in. At this point you're probably thinking hey…that's
a lot of flavour you've packed into just those few little bits that you've started. Yeah
I mean why not? Why not nurture it? Why not help it become more? Help it nourish your
belly. Help it nourish your soul. Help it keep you from screaming at night.
Carrots are soft enough. Adding water. While you sort out your life and figure out
why it was that you couldn't boil enough water to put in the soup you can add the turkey.
Layering the flavours. That's it. Layering the flavours.
Lid on. Now that we have a minute and the soup is
boiling I realize that I'm a horrible lier. I didn't tell you. You have to add basmati
rice. So now you…you wait.
And now my sister's baking just to spite me. The soup is cooking, my sister's making impromptu
cupcakes. Life…life is good. My sister's cupcake experiment continues.
I changed into my jammies because I'm feeling vulnerable but I kept my bra and makeup on
because I like you. We've tasted the soup, everything looks good.
Peas. How many peas? That many peas. Corn. That much corn.
And basmati rice. 2/3 of a cup 'cause…you know.
And then I'm gonna do this. Stop judging me.
Oh my God! The rice is almost cooked. We're going to
take the turkey out to take it off the bone so that it's easier to eat.
It may not be the fanciest way but you take two forks…you rip apart the turkey.
Oh my God. Look at it!
We made this. We made this together. See you next Friday
I feel really good, I'm going to take a nap, sleep some of this off, hopely…sleep some
of this off hopefully.
