I awoke this morning with a feeling of peace.
It was eerie.
My coffee maker emitted a familiarly delicious aroma from downstairs.
My eyes crusted over with the dust of sleep...
and would not function properly until the first cup of rejuvenation had been ingested.
I stumbled from my room...
though the hallway...
and down the stairs...
cursing the day from under my breath.
The sunshine danced happily across the floating speckles in the air...
and leapt from the windowsill to the kitchen.
I grabbed my cool blue mug from the dish rack...
and moved religiously toward the maker of the sweet brown nectar of Gods.
The kitchen linoleum was chilly.
The comfort of warm delicious coffee.
Ah!
Better life through chemicals!
I was within reach of the soothing, steaming beverage...
when a knock came at the door.
(KNOCKING)
(SIGH)
(KNOCKING)
Damn it.
It has to be someone looking for an ***-whooping.
I made my way to the door...
fumbled with the locks...
and worked the door open.
There appeared to be no one.
