VTV3 (Vietnam Television) news report Yesterday on the 22nd July 2013, Vietnam Institute
of Linguistics, Hanoi (capital city), Vietnam hosted a national workshop on Cultural conceptualisations and Embodiment
by the world famous Professor Farzad Sharifian, Associate Dean, Faculty of Arts, Monash University,
Australia. This event appealed to many key scholars in
the field across Vietnam who came to attend and discussed related issues.
Professor Farzad Sharifian has
been known in the world for proposing a novel approach to analyse the relationship between language,
culture and cultural conceptualisations. He further stressed the inter-dependence between
language and culture and how cultural conceptualisations impact people's embodiment in communication
across cultures. In this event, he has shared many interesting
findings from different cultures and significant implications with the audience, key scholars,
lecturers, researchers and PhD candidates in Vietnam. He is a pioneer and a prominent
expert in Cultural Linguistics and we thank him for developing a very effective analytical
tool - cultural conceptualisations, a tremendous step in research across disciplines including
cognitive linguistics, anthropology, applied linguistics, English Language Teaching.
Tomorrow on the 23rd July 2013, Professor Farzad Sharifian will visit Vietnam National
University to deliver a talk on Applied Cultural Linguistics, EIL and implications for ELT
and intercultural communication.
His visit is excitedly anticipated over the months and the presence of many researchers,
teachers and students all over the country has proved this excitement in the two venues.
The audience today has expressed their pleasure, full satisfaction and appreciation for his
interesting insightful inspiring talk by Professor Farzad who has travelled all the way across
the ocean to share his expertise with Vietnamese academics.
