Intro (K) - Hi this is Kendra (and this is Alex filling in for Rachel) and you're watching
This Week in TV. This week we have some summer premieres, finales, and specials, then in
honor of the ABC Family premiere of The Lying Game, Alex and I will share some of the best
cases of double-identity on TV, aka one actor playing two roles. But first, what's on this
week Alex?
A: Well, Kendra, first up on Monday we have the
season premiere of The Lying Game on ABC Family, so don't forget to stick around for our exclusive
preview. Also on Monday we have the season premiere of Millionaire Matchmaker on Bravo
followed by the series premiere of Most Eligible Dallas. Then on Tuesday, we have some big
finales including MasterChef on FOX, Memphis Beat and Hawthorne on TNT, and the first season
finale of The Nine Lives of Chloe King on ABC Family. Then on Wednesday we have the
finales of NBC's Love in the Wild, and Rocco's Dinner Party on Bravo. What do we have for
the rest of the week, Kendra?
K: Well Alex, on Thursday, the "2011 Do Something
Awards" air on Vh1 at 9pm, then on Friday Flashpoint has its season finale at 8pm on
CBS. On Sunday the 21st, get ready to gleek out with The Glee Project Season 1 finale
on Oxygen 9pm.
A - Topic Intro & Picks: In honor of Monday's premiere of The Lying
Game, which features one character who takes on her long-lost twin's identity, Kendra and
I have decided to pay tribute to other shows with actors who take on Double Identities
- either as twins, clones, or doppelgangers. After all, unless we're talking about the
Olsen twins or Tia and Tamara Mowry, most TV twins are played by just one 'extra-talented'
actor. For one, in the upcoming CW show Ringer, Sarah Michelle Gellar plays a woman on the
run who takes on the identity of her missing sister in order to hide from the mob. And
of course, let's not forget Lisa Kudrow from Friends, who not only played the lovable yet
flaky Phoebe Bufay, but also played her semi-evil, even flakier twin sister Ursula. Kendra, what
other TV double identities can you think of?
K: Well Alex, you can't talk double-identities
without mentioning at least one supernatural show! On The CW's Vampire Diaries, Nina Dobrev
plays both Elena Gilbert and Katherine Pierce. This one's a little tricky as they aren't
twins, but instead a modern day human and a 15th century vampire who's relation is unraveled
throughout the show. And of course, to make it more fun and dramatic, they both find themselves
in the same vampire brothers love triangle. Another differently fun and dramatic case
of double identity was on Arrested Development where Jeffrey Tambor played Bluth family patriarch
George Sr. as well as his screw up brother Oscar. The hysterical confusions that took
place from Buster's "pop secret" to "you've got the wrong twin" arrests makes this double-identity
my very favorite.
K Closing: That's it for this week, stay tuned for an ABC Family exclusive extended promo
for The Lying Game!
A: See you next time!
