The Waitoa family of Aranui were severely affected by the quake,
at home and work.
But although they are going through a very tough time,
they are still concerned for their community.
This is the township of Aranui.
The Waitoa family are clearing and picking up rubbish.
The first priority is tidying the house
and getting rid of all the rubbish.
Pae o te Riri resides in Australia,
but when he heard about the quake he wanted to be with his family.
I was shocked, so I tried to get hold of my parents
to see if they're alright.
The chimney stack of their house collapsed,
but the good thing is that water has sprung for the earth
to provide for them and the community.
My father told our friends and neighbours
to come and take some water.
However, Merita Waitoa-*** must now think about her school,
Te Kura Pumau i te Reo Tuturu ki Waitaha,
as they have not been permitted to enter their buildings.
Our school was trashed.
Although many things were broken, those things can be replaced.
The important thing is that our children weren't harmed.
There is little food, but also few people.
We are formulating a plan for us all for the next few weeks.
The gates of Te Kura Pumau remain closed at this time.
They could reopen on the 14th of this month,
but that hasn't been settled. We will see in time.
Rapaera Tawhai, Te Karere.
