He's got a million friends
He knows what's important in life
He's a man of character
He goes out of his way to do things for people
He's loyal to his family, he's loyal to his friends. He's loyal to his college, and he's very loyal to his business.
(James) Kevin is Providence College. Kevin was
Providence College when he was 20. Kevin was
Providence College when he was 40. And Kevin is
Providence College today.
(Anne) He believes in the old adage, "to whom much is given much is expected"
(Fr. Shanley) Kevin is one of the best alumni that we have out there. And his generosity is extraordinary.
(Kevin) Thanks mom and dad for the opportunity. Thanks to my classmates for the friendship.
Thanks to the Dominicans for the education, and thanks Providence College.
And that to me, is the sum and substance of what alma mater is.
(Raymond) The Catholic theory of social and economic justice is a powerful message that I learned
and Kevin learned, and it stayed with us throughout our careers.
(Judith) Kevin Phelan is who Kevin Phelan is because of his parents.
(Kevin) I grew up in a hometown of Bristol, Connecticut where my mom and dad had grown up.
I had a fantastic upbringing.
(Judith) Both his parents were committed to their community.
(Raymond) It was really about loyalty to the family and doing the right thing.
(Anne) Kevin's happiest when he's with family. The kids, they're his pride and joy. Always have been.
He always made them feel special and safe, and loved.
(Raymond) Kevin is probably one of the most admired
and respected people in the city of Boston.
(Judith) Kevin is known because he's a networker. Because of the relationships he has he knows everybody.
(Joshua) Kevin's impact in the city of Boston is tremendous. He's a true connector of people.
He knows everybody, but more importantly he values everybody.
(Fr. Shanley) There's nobody better in Boston at making people connect for good causes than Kevin.
(Raymond) He's the one person that I've met in my life
that you can't say no to. You feel like you would betray the city if you didn't do what Kevin Phelan asked you to do.
(Kevin) I came to my so-called "adopted city", I got involved early on with New England Homes for Little Wanderers
and then the Boys Club in South Boston
(Joshua) Kevin's had an unbelievable impact on Boys and Girls Club of Boston. Kevin is not only a great leader,
but he truly cares about what's going on in the communities. He's invested in it.
(Eamon) I grew up in the Boys and Girls Club, South Boston Boys and Girls Club.
I was on a council with the president of the Boys and Girls Club. It came time for me to apply for schools and one of
my schools that I was applying to was Providence College.
(Kevin) Linda Whitlock who was president of the Boys and Girls Club, was a fantastic leader.
Called me one time and said "we've got a great kid over here."
(Eamon) And I was 17 years old I walked into this office. Sat down and had a great conversation with him.
Kevin's been a mentor for me ever since.
(Judith) Kevin's very aware of hardships and the things that people do to overcome those hardships
and to better themselves. He saw that in Eamon
(Eamon) I was the first person in my family to go to college. And I'm a firm believer in the youth of this nation
to have strong role models for them. And I found one in Kevin Phelan.
(Raymond) It's a special quality that Kevin and Anne Phelan have, they're not only friends to their friends,
but friends to people that they don't even know.
(Fr. Shanley) Kevin's philanthropy is going to leave a lasting impact at Providence College.
He's just got a really generous heart.
(Judith) My 14 year old says today "I'm going to be just like Kevin Phelan"
(Anne) It gives him great satisfaction and pleasure to help other people.
(Eamon) He just represented that goal of going to college, getting a good job, being successful,
and then being able to give back. That was honestly all I ever wanted to do.
(Kevin) I've been very very fortunate. I mean, life has been good to us. And the job that I've had
allowed me to be able to give back. It's truely one of the pleasures of our lives.
