Members of Western Illinois University and the Macomb Community
gathered Friday December 13 in honor of celebrating the new Grand
Entrance sign. Funded through student faculty enhancement fees
Leander construction company began working on the sign in August.
Located on the corner of University Drive and US Route 67,
the new sign ties in architectural features from Sherman Hall.
Government Association President Caleb Markey, WIU President Jack Thomas
and Macomb Mayor Mike Inman spoke at the ribbon-cutting ceremony.
This is an exciting time in the history of Western Illinois University
that we finally a got a new Grand Entrance, which we call the gateway to
the University.
it says to individuals that this is the beginning of Western Illinois
University.
The first impression should be the best impression.
I don't think we can say enough for the student body stepping up and saying
these are our moneys, these are our dollars,
and this is how we would like to spend them. And I think that that's incredible.
We have goals and a vision for this University,
and with all of our effort, we will achieve them.
Following the approval from the Student Government Association back in April,
the construction of the new Grand Entrance began. Here we are at the
ribbon-cutting ceremony
to celebrate the new addition to the campus.
I think there's a special air, a sense of,
I guess, Western, as soon as you get on the campus. You know this
this new entrance sign, I really think
let's you know that you're on Western's Campus. It really just adds to that sense of community.
