Hi everybody! My name is Matt and I’m the Social Media Manager here at Volusion. Welcome
to Two Minute Tuesdays, where we give you two minutes of ecommerce advice to bolster
your online success. In a world with millions of ecommerce sites,
customers make big judgments the second they come to yours. So with that in mind, today
we’re going to go over six website elements that will make or break customer impressions
as soon as they get to your website. First, always consider your load times. If
people click on your website from a search engine result and it takes 5-10 seconds to
load, they’ll likely never even enter your site. Thus, if you’re a Volusion customer,
enable your CDN to help your site load in a flash.
Second, customers subconsciously absorb the primary colors of your website, so think about
the psychology of colors. For example, the color red evokes feelings of passion and romance,
while the color white is associated with purity and trustworthiness. Thus, consider these
innate reactions as they definitely make a subtle first impression.
Third, logo design is keenly important. Remember that your logo summarizes your entire brand,
so customers should instantly make a connection with it. If you don’t have a logo on your
site, I definitely recommend investing the time and effort to make it look great.
Fourth is clutter, or the lack thereof. If you have a ton of images and copy jammed above
the fold, you’re missing out on making a solid first impression. Clean up any cluttered
webpages and remember that simplicity is always best.
Along the same lines, your main image on your homepage is extremely crucial. If you can
fit multiple messages into a slideshow, that’s even better, as this mechanism provides a
focal point. The moral of the story is to always give shoppers a place to go to with
your main image. Last, but not least there’s the “Je ne
sais quoi” of your ecommerce site, which are those indescribable elements that make
your site truly fantastic. In other words, if all of your design elements are working
together, your site will truly stand out. Hopefully this list of six tips will help
make your first impressions perfect every time, helping you close more deals while making
customers happier with your site. If you have any questions about this or anything
related to ecommerce, we’re always happy to help.
From me to you, happy selling!
