Good morning and welcome to my vision of the first year composition tablet course. My vision...
flip it! A tablet course will allow me to turn lectures from passive participation to
active participation. I think it's important to understand the student environment. Students
text, they tweet, they use emoticons to express themselves. The words twerking and selfie
were recently added to the Oxford dictionary and YouTube has given new meaning to the word
viral. Grammar school cursive lessons have been replaced with keyboard fundamentals.
We're not asking students to stop writing, we're simply giving them new tools to write
with. The composition table course allows me to guide student research. Students have
a tendency to equate research with a Google search. My vision is to solidify my students
connection to the library and its vast array of resources. I'm hoping that the Google search
becomes a library search. And all of this flips the composition classroom from a passive
lecture to an active workshop with real-time collaboration and sharing. And that's my vision.
