hello and welcome to what the flick I'm Christie this is Alonzo this is Ben
Alonso seen a movie called God loves Uganda and the rest to this had not so
he's going to tell you about it
operates on at this year's opening this weekend it is directed by Oscar winner
Roger Williams to
1a at the best document short couple years ago this first feature
and it's about how American evangelicals
whose anti-gay messages are no longer finding as much favor United States
are now taking their act on the road to Africa so
basically other film is about it's not like I'm nobody but people don't smoke
as much United States anymore so cigarette companies had to start
targeting the third world
it's you know you've got this the the is a crazy midwestern like super
rapidly anti-gay a ministries
and they're not getting the traction the use in the US and now they're going up
to Uganda where they get to go on television and talk to Parliament and
help shape the kill the gays law in that country and so
it's very good creepy and terrifying but on the other hand it's of those kinda
satiric be funny because you see these white
sheltered suburban missionaries go out into
the jungle on out into you know the more the room out we're all areas above
Uganda or even in the city's
and and doing their sort of like you know wide-eyed Pat Boone kinda
a preaching and and a lot of the locals are just like not getting oh what the
hell are you talking about
although you also see how that fervent brand
I love Evangelos a evangelism has taken hold there and then you know you see
these
these really should've radical Street Preachers them and neck anything in and
of course you know these guys with their own
you know you can then make a church in their own you can the mega mansion that
they love them you know because they got all the support the United States and
and you know it it if the timing is great that its opening in theaters now
because we're now also hearing that
the National Organization for Marriage which was one of the big anti-gay groups
here
has been going to russia a lot lately in helping shape all that crazy
a a you nope somewhere they want to take you know adoptive children away from
same-sex parents in some I got so it's a powerful film um
it's a smart movie and I think it really illuminates a on aspect above the world
the people that know a lot about that this is actually happening in that
that the US right-wingers are really should have shaping policy in other
countries
and exporting their particular brand of homophobia elsewhere so
I give it a 9.1 and I
it is opening in limited release I don't know if its on demand but
it should be making its way around them you know mentally I'm sure to
cable 11 up to 100 percent everybody likes around a on right to me collagen
