One of the things that's extraordinary about our Executive Education offerings is that
the Stanford Graduate School of Business is of course located in the heart of Stanford
University which in turn is located in the heart of Silicon Valley. So this is a center
of innovation. It's at the cutting edge of technology. This is where many of the brand
name startups in the world have been founded. And, executive education programs give our
participants the opportunity to come to Stanford or to come and join us if we're abroad in
their location, and understand what some of these cutting edge, innovative ideas are and
how they can take those ideas and really propel their organizations forward.
We're able to draw on all the schools in the University: Letters and Sciences, Engineering,
Design School, Public Policy, Law School and bring together experts from each of these
areas that can help us understand and focus on business problems of today.
More so than ever business leaders have to have a broad grasp of all of these things
and I think we are able to deliver that within our curriculum.
Our faculty are an outstanding set of social scientists who observe and analyze the business
world and who are able to distill what they learn from their observations into actionable
managerial plans and frameworks that can be used by executives who are in our programs.
Participants in our programs literally come from all over the world. They come from the
top companies in the world but also some of the smallest companies and some companies
that are just a, a thought at the moment. They are at all levels from the mid-level
manager with high potential, all the way up to the CEOs of some of the top companies.
An Executive Circle Summit is an event where we pull together former participants in Executive
Education programs, alumni and other business leaders and we expose them to innovative new
ideas from Stanford University and how we can use those ideas to help them address the
challenges that they face in their businesses. We hold the Executive Circle Summit in the
major business centers of the world. Uh, We go to India every year and we go to China
every year. For the participants, an Executive Circle Summit is really important because
it is part of their life-long learning. The world of knowledge doesn't remain static.
They need to come back to school on a regular basis to refresh their knowledge and expand
their realm of ideas so they can continue to lead and move their organization.
Like what is usually done with executives, which is what you do is that you teach them
concepts. And then you use cases as a way to apply the concepts. What I try to do is
bring real world problems into the classroom and allow the executives to become children
once again. That is, allow them to be a kid to see, come up with the craziest of ideas
of how you will solve the problem. Even about 10, 15 minutes of it, of, you know having
this fun, coming out with weird ideas and crazy ideas. Very soon what will happen great
ideas out of that fun, most of it will be totally weird, but out of them will emerge
some great solutions for the problem. I think one of the things that our programs
bring to executives and corporations around the world is an understanding of how to innovate
and to essentially build a lingua franca for innovation within their organizations that
makes their organizations more effective in the marketplace and are able to find those
things that take them to the next level which happen to be disruptive in their markets and
create new markets where there hadn't been markets before.
