The number of newly employed workers in Korea rose at its fastest pace in 12 years in February,
amid signs of improvement in the local economy. According to data by Statistics Korea released
Wednesday, the number of employed people in February stood at 24-point-8 million,... up
835-thousand from a year earlier. The figure represents the largest on-year
job growth since March 2002, and comes just a month after the country set a growth record
of 705-thousand in January. During the same period, however, the nation's
unemployment rate increased by 0-point-five percent to 4-point-5 percent.
Experts say this is due to an increase in the number of young people who came out in
search of work in time for the graduation and recruitment season.
