Jason Furman: 1.3 million Americans are about to lose
a vital lifeline of unemployment insurance benefits;
money that helps pay the bills while they work hard,
trying to find that next job.
If we don't do anything over the course of 2014,
another 3.6 million people would lose those benefits.
This isn't just bad for those families,
their purchasing power is important to the overall
economy as well.
Congress has numerous times on a bipartisan basis
extended these benefits.
The unemployment rate is coming down.
We're creating jobs.
The economy is strengthening, but there's still millions of
workers who need those benefits and need us to be here for them.
That's why it's so important that we act quickly.
