with
welcome to the show of hands and getting our newsletter which should be you'll
know that coming up a little bit later we'll be talking to climb miller who's
running for senate in missouri
some people have a campaign unchanged like brocco bomber
john mccain used to call in south america
glenn miller's campaign is based on it's the jews stupid he remembered james
carville
famously coined the phrase
it's the economy stupid for for bill clinton
it's the jews stupid is glenn miller's
catch phrase and we'll be talking to him
my main question for him is
who's a bigger problem
blacks or jews and also we've had shirley phelps roper from that
westborough baptist church on the show
i actually haven't heard that much homophobic stuff from glenn miller but i
i do you just have to assume that offutt falls under the same umbrella right
right bigotry generally covers you know you know there is a zero knows no bounds
arizona first i want to talk about what's going on in arizona and then
we'll also get to part two of our interview with
jesse ventura
former governor
current conspiracy theorist and t_v_ host and author
abt arizona has a republican governor jan brewer and jen brewer signed a bill
into law that last week that actually makes it a crime
to be in the state illegally and we know that there are many illegal immigrants
or as some call them undocumented workers in arizona
what is actually mean it means police not only cab the ability to
but they're actually legally
for supposed to
for papers when they see somebody walking around that they have what
they're calling reasonable suspicion that they may be an illegal immigrant
now i know
reasonable suspicion to me
sounds like a pretty wide open door
to a lot of hijinks right
profiling
well and that's not will talk we'll hear from joe are pile
move says this is not going to be his racial profiling now
what does it mean to say that you reasonably could be an illegal immigrant
is it just that you look hispanic
is it that you're not wearing a suit
is it that idon't know i don't know what it is mexico is actually telling its
citizens until it's more a clearly-defined
mind under what criteria out when where and who the authorities will check
you should assume if you're a mexican citizen
you could be harassed unquestioned
without cause etc any moment in arizona and president barack obama very quickly
denounced that there is on a lot i said it was misguided
and he wants to monitor very closely how it's going to be implemented
i can't say i blame him i'm also curious how will this be implemented
and admit the mexican president felipe a calderon said the law
criminalizes immigration and opens the door to intolerant eight
discrimination so on and so forth the actual arizona police organizations are
somewhat split about this believe it or not the arizona association of chiefs of
police
criticizes it
but at the same time the phoenix police union supports it
so we'll see where it goes what it sounds like to me and let's get to the
bottom line here if you have brown skin
you can and likely will be stopped at any time asked for papers it's also a
misdemeanor
not to have your papers now i don't know if if i got
pulled over nasa chooses and don't have my license that's not actually a crime
right
uh... right i believe you might you know i have to provide it proves that i have
a license within a few days or something like that right and i'm sure they can
look most of that up on a computer i think they can look at our brighten
their cruisers
so what what this is saying is you need to have your papers
if you're stopping if you don't that can actually be a crime inevitable what
papers do you need to have an is it a green card a visa work on i'm not sure
exactly what you need to have on i've no idea how i assume
you know it sounds like a healthier three-ring binder stuff you need to
carry around with you just to be absolutely safety of brown skin in
arizona
obviously many democrats and liberals oppose this and
even some republicans do interestingly enough there's a conservative case being
made for why this is nonsense
and it is kind of a selfish self
self-centered case
but it's still a case nonetheless right
matt lewis is a conservative journalist says the problem is what it does to u_s_
citizens many of whom may now into a repeated questioning from police
for merely walking down the street
the reasonable suspicion i think is where the real problem is here because
that's one of those probable cause write anything could be probable cause to a
police officer
anythink arouse a reasonable suspicion in their eyes
when the law prohibits only the use of race to make a determination about
whether someone looks like an illegal immigrant or not
so it sounds to me like it will be
race and class right hispanic guy walking down the street with a suit
less likely to be asked for his papers
hispanic i walking down the street in construction close probably more likely
to be a probably and are these police you know going to engage in conversation
with these people beforehand as you'll see how their english is like what
it's its opening the door and a lot to a lot of of strange stuff ab
also is this just go it is arizona but presumably
we believe the argument that so many make about open borders that terrorists
are also getting in through the mexican border
anybody who's middle eastern looking which by the way what is it mean three
middle eastern looking are they also going to be targets now
i'd just don't know and then you know what about afterwards that i mean are
you bringing these illegal immigrants into our legal system wipe out is that
my understanding is that if they are determined by the serb doing this
stopper the questioning to be illegal immigrants there rested and then
deported is the process have how quickly that happens i don't know
this hasn't even gone into effect yet
they're not
i mean how is that i was a different from what was going on before when water
was discovered as an illegal immigrant
before it was you couldn't
stop someone italic
seatbelts you in some states you can just pull someone over because it
doesn't look like they're wearing their seat belt before them over and they
happen not to be you can find them now you can actually
approach someone regardless of what they're doing if they look like they
might be a legal immigrants of the whole point of this just to make it easier to
find these legal immigrants exactly of which supposedly four hundred and sixty
thousand
are an air zone of bill kristol not surprisingly from the weekly standard
he says this immigration law it doesn't violate anybody civil rights let's take
a listen and i i don't think it's a surprise to anybody
that bill kristol has this opinion
before we get part of some of the back of the the merits of the bill
and the claim from quebec city institutionalize is racial profiling
upon number of areas the supremacy clause article one of the constitution
which gives the the vinci abdullah studying up last minute i thought i
might not get it out
but which gives the federal government control over immigration and also on the
fourteenth amendment on reasonable search-and-seizure
doesn't want the constitution
i doubt that violates the constitution if it does it's a matter of federal
preemption against against a lot of the compound waiting on civil rights and i
think the violin bow on immigration supported the bush became
proposals of about six other cities the starting at st
strange laws that that we know our liberal but
he doesn't think it violates any sandy buddy civil rights will good
bill kristol his inkling is that this is just fine
