Mrs. Viji Varadarajan is a Chennai-based cookbook author.
She is going to show how she prepares a traditional southern Indian breakfast using her favorite cooker and grinder.
The first dish is idli, a steamed bread made from rice and black gram. Rice is a staple food in southern India.
Rava (semolina) idli is the spicy version of the bread.
With this cooker, idli and rice come out soft, like jasmine flowers.
Green chutney goes well with idli. It's made from coriander leaves, green chilies, fried gram and coconut.
Coriander is added at the end for a fresh color and nice texture.
In southern India, meals are traditionally served on banana leaves. Very eco-friendly and hygienic!
You eat this delicious meal with your right hand. What a taste!
