I'm Jim Leske, animal trainer with Expert Village. Today we're talking about border
collies and herding. This is Tess. Border collies need a lot of physical stimulation.
The reason that she is calm and relaxed is because she gets a lot of physical stimulation.
If they are left home and alone in the backyard a lot, they're not going to get enough physical
stimulation that they need. So this is the end result, when they get enough work, if
they get enough physical stimulation, they are herding dogs and if they're not getting
that stimulation that they need, they will chase trucks, busses, the mail van, UPS, FedEx,
you name it, they'll be more than happy to herd it for you. In fact with Tess, we don't
even use the herding word. Up here we let her chase dogs chasing their toys and that
triggers the work instinct, the herding instinct and she gets more than enough physical and
mental stimulation from that, keeps her calm and well behaved and you see, she's back to
work. That's the nature of the border collie, they're very focused, it's all about the job
at hand. I'm Jim Leske and we'll be back with more herding in just a minute.
