The Mont Cervin Palace is a building with such a great past,
that one has to almost be a little reverent,
but you have to invest into the future.
I would say by giving it a modern touch,
so that it is also attractive to future generations.
We have been planning the renovation, which started in April,
for a long time. We are completely renovating 4 floors
together with the infrastructure; salons, reception, boxes, garden and terraces
are also being renewed in readiness for the winter.
We want to show that we provide quality here.
When we use stone, we use stone that comes from
the Rhone Valley in Canton Wallis.
We use local oak with knots, so that you can see that the wood
has grown naturally, and not on a tree farm.
These days, nobody likes to use knotted wood,
but the branches give the wood character - that is important.
We use a lot of natural materials like felt and cotton,
both of which are very nice to the touch.
We want, that when you wake up in the morning,
you immediately know where you are - that you are in Zermatt,
that you are in the mountains, and that you are in Switzerland.
We want to make the Alps feel palpable –
and also the elegance of the building.
In this area we have deliberately re-created
a plaster moulding in the same style as it used to be.
Then in this area we have created padded wall coverings.
Why did we do this? Because it creates a wonderful atmosphere
in the room with very comfortable acoustics, so that when people are talking,
or listening to music, they have the best possible sound.
We are on time with the project, but I have no illusions –
the last 14 days, or the last 3 weeks on every building site is the same,
even when you plan it as carefully as possible, the conclusion is the most hectic part.
