the NFL has reached a historic settlement
in the case up concussions caused by the sport
now there was a huge lawsuit filed against the NFL because some former
players believe that the NFL
was hiding scientific evidence in the quill indicating that the sport
was leading to but serious issues including depression dementia and
Alzheimer's
and now this settlement that is tentative
includes $765 million dollars
season that will be %uh distributed among about
18,000 retired players now I
the NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell said the following:
he told pro football's lawyers to do the right thing for the game
and for the men who played it its obvious that Roger Goodell
an entire NFL watch The Young Turks because the last time we did a story on
this
I said look I i understand those people took those
wrists on they didn't know exactly the risk they were taking but they
knew there were some rest involved and they did and they got a certain pain
they were having to take that paper time
but it's okay you gotta do the right thing by these guys anyway cuz you have
so much money
almost a direct quote to do the right thing for the game
and the man who played a so obvious NFL's all over 280 not a big deal
I 80,000 retired players you got me to think for its pretty obvious
but it's okay it's okay no negotiating a settlement $65 million with me it's our
now the reason why they I came to this conclusion and decided to settle is
because if you settled in you do not have to disclose past studies that the
you know the league did which might have found that
okay this sport does actually lead to severe brain injuries in fact
the league has a mild traumatic brain injury committee
and they've been %uh studying this for quite some time right now
are first quite some time and right now they actually have a
lead rheumatologist who focuses on these brain injuries and
its it strange that they don't want to release the findings are those studies
but again the settlement is one way to make sure that they do not have to
disclose that information so far little problematic right there are you trying
to say that this might not have been
out of the goodness of their hearts for the man who played the game
but they might not have wanted to reveal what they knew all along you know
you were quite acidic atticus pair I am quite the seneca guess
now I want to give you guys some more I details on the settlement the individual
payouts will actually be capped at about five million dollars
for the man with Alzheimer's four million dollars that for those who are
diagnosed
after their deaths with something known as CT eats a severe brain
injury and also three million dollars for players with dementia
you when you look at it its kinda weird to put a price tag on it
but at the same time you know you you gotta figure out some way to pay people
right hand and have some categories and then understand that
yeah you know it's a good day because they have these got some you know
pay for for the damage they suffered
and let it get alzheimer's or dementia
how much is the five million three million help you that helps your family
a time
yeah obviously the guys who died with CT um
and there's a lot I cases with people with brain injuries significant brain
injuries you find out after they die like to yourself
it helps us family tremendous amount that's good right I should also jump in
let you guys know that the vast majority of these players are not going to get
millions of dollars in fact the Chicago Tribune to their own estimate as to how
much the players are likely to get
and is about a hundred seventy thousand dollars so like I said the majority the
players are going to get like millions of dollars in the settlement
job so at the end of the day what you should really take away from this is
obviously the sport does cause some serious brain injuries and what
typeof you know %uh preventative efforts is the NFL going to take
as a response to this if anything at all now
%uh I played football in high schools middle linebacker which explains a lot
I I played market I couldn't help it
I are I and I don't know if you know this but the
Nokia I I just get to
the important point about how I was a automation all-county
ok got ok yeah for the rest yeah hello
