Graeme McDowell is with us
and G.MAC, the 2010 US Open Champion is going to show us a little bit of a short game skill.
It scares the amateurs, but you are going to take the fear away from them.
Especially when you are chipping off turf like we have here at Mission Hills, it's a little bit grainy,
and the grain generally runs in the same direction as the slope, so as you can see,
as my golf ball is running away here, that we are on a up slope.
I think too many amateurs reach straight away for their most lofty club in the bag,
this is my 58 degree wedge.
What happens here when we are off the upslope,
of course you want to lean that shaft forward to make the ball go forward,
and we kind of get a litte bit...
It gets very diggy, as you can see, I've stuck that club straight into the ground.
It's a high turf shot, you have to nip it really perfectly, you have to hit ball first.
My preference in this type of scenario is to use less loft, this is my 52 degree wedge,
and I can actually match the shaft to the upslope a little bit, not getting it too leany,
just with the upslope a little bit, my weight back on my right side,
I'm just going to nip it off.
Nip it off that turf a little bit more.
So a little less diggy.
That shot will be a lot easier for the guys to play,
and not quite as high turf, easier to strike.
Thank you very much, a G-MAC masterclass.
