Good design, you can physically see the change
in people's lives and how that begins to
either affect just the work space that they're in or
allow them to have new interactions with different people.
I was born in Accra, Ghana, and my parents also grew up in that region.
An important notion that my parents have taught me
is to always question ideas and not really
take anything at face value and that's what
would set you apart and create, really push you to be a better person.
And so that really translates to who I want to be.
Being in UT's Architecture program has really helped me
formulate, I guess, how I think as a designer.
In some ways, architecture is individual a little bit.
And then of course you can have conversations with people if you want.
But this one is like everyone is bringing different skills to the table
and you have to figure out the best way to create a solution
while hearing out other people's ideas but deciding which ones are the best ones
and then divvying up the work in a way that's sensible and fair.
It's not just some cool building that people will use
because maybe it's so functional in terms of the LEED rating
But if it has nothing that connects to the user then it's absolutely useless.
So, that's always an important part that holds true is really
meeting the needs of the client and not just the building and how
it performs and what it looks like.
