Stop Overstuffing Your Trouser & Jacket Pockets - How To Carry Less - Men's Style Fashion
Tips
Hi. I’m Antonio Centeno, the founder of Real Men Real Style and today, I’m going
to be talking about pockets and overstuffing your pockets and how to avoid it. Okay, if
you haven’t already, please subscribe to my YouTube channel, by doing that, these videos
will come right to you. You can subscribe just by clicking on the subscribe button right
up there. In addition, if you like this video, if you find it useful, I would appreciate
it if you click on the like button down below and finally, I’m going to link you to my
free 47 page E-book which is going to go in to a lot more detail about Men’s style.
All right, let’s jump right into this. The question that came in is “Pockets, how much
is too much? I generally just keep my keys, wallet, phone and business cards in my pockets
but sometimes, it just feels like there’s way too much in there.” Okay, so this is
a good question and the obvious answer is to carry less, to really do an inventory and
we would do this in a military. It’s something where you actually, you pay attention to every
single ounce, to every single piece that we would lay out all of our gear because we’re
about to go on a 20 mile hump or we’re about to go into the field for a week and it’s
one of those things you always want to, not only make sure that you have only what you
need, but you have everything that you need so lay it out there.
All that stuff in your wallet that really doesn’t need to be there, get rid of it.
All of those keys on your keychain, I mean, if you haven’t used them for a year, for
five years… well, you know. You probably don’t need to be carrying them on your keychain,
that keychain with that beer bottle opener and all that other stuff, when was really
the last time you used it? Now if you’re using that beer bottle opener, you better
keep that on there but… you see what I’m saying? Go through and ruthlessly get rid
of what you don’t need.
Then it comes down to what are you wearing. As you can see right now, I’m wearing pretty
casual clothing. I can carry more on me when wearing a leather jacket, jeans. Now, if you’re
going to be dressing sharp in a suit, immediately you want to be carrying less because you don’t
want bulges on your suit and you’re going want to – the great thing about a suit is
you’ve actually got pockets then in your jacket. You can hide things and put things
but really look at what you’re wearing and realize that, “Okay, I’m wearing very
casual clothing,” or perhaps you’re military gear and you’ve got those cargo. You got
cargo pants, well, fill those things up I guess but really, if you’re wearing more
formal clothing, you want to be carrying less and it’s almost better – I mean, if you
really don’t need it, think, “Do I really need to be carrying this phone? If I’m going
to be going in and wanting to have a good time?”
Perhaps it’s a time to leave the phone in the car and just go in and have a good time
with your friends because that phone will probably be there waiting for you when you
get back. I’ll also say, maybe look to what we call spread loading and making sure that
everything is in a pocket or in a place where it’s not going to be moving around because
I think you talked about how your keys would make a lot of noise. Well, look at what keys
you need and then maybe have specific pockets where you’re only carrying those keys in
it.
I also know. I make trousers for men and whenever I make custom trousers and we get a lot of
request for change pockets and that’s a pocket with within a pocket that actually
holds the money in place. So hopefully those tips will help you avoid the bulge when it
comes to pockets and I’ll see you in the next video.
