Today has been an intense kind of work day for me
And now I'm off to the lawyer
F**k it's hot out here, why did I wear long pants
So I just got my new visa
Three years
My status is now Engineer slash Specialist in Humanities slash International Services
Time for some celebratory ramen
The place I'm going to is one of my top three favorite ramen places in Tokyo
That looks so good
Back to work
This is the UwagaPies Q&A
Go!
How do you actually meet so many people?
I don't
I stay at home
We have to distinguish between meeting foreigners and meeting Japanese people, I think
Because the mechanic is often a bit different
I guess with foreigners it just happens
You just kind of talk to each other
And with meeting Japanese people, it's like
once you have a few Japanese friends, then they introduce you to their friends sometimes
But I think it's easier with foreigners
Like with foreigners, when you see each other, you'll just talk to each other because you're both foreign
Once I meet one person, I'll meet the next person and then I'll meet their friends and then their friends
And then their friends who visit will put me i contact with more firends
And there's just this big web of
Sorry
It's very easy, I think
Life advice from Kasia
Meeting people is easy
Gonciu, how do you call quarter pounder with cheese in Japanese?
Do you get the joke?
No
It's a Pulp Fiction reference
I think it's just quarter pounder
It is a Pulp Fiction reference
In Europe it's called Royale with Cheese
E M S Leito PL
Do you guys, Kasia and Kris, do some sport or gym?
I ran quite a lot
We had a good thing going for a while
Yeah in December
It was very good, I was fit in December
Anyway, I wanna start running again
I'm afraid this is gonna make the vlog even more similar to Casey Neistat
So now I have to get sloppy to differentiate
We're just gonna be like the opposite
We're gonna jump rope so that it's different
Yea
How do you bring together every day life with making these vlogs?
Well I think it was easier for you to get in the routine
because you've been filming more before
For me it was a little unnatural
to always rememeber to use the camera
I used to carry like bags around, like a feminine bag
and now i switched to backpacks to make it easier to grab and take out the camera
you just have to make small changes like that to make the camera really really accessible
Yeah, that's why we use handy small cameras like this
and not a professional big rig that we would normally film with
because this is just convenient to walk with
The production part, it's just taking like three hours every night to do
Jacek Neumann
Why do all Japanese people make this V gesture with their hands on every picture?
Where did this come from?
Well my friend told me is that John Lennon and The Beatles came and did it
and that was one thing
then there are other pop culture references
like there was an ice skater who was from the U.S.
Everyone thought she was going to win gold medal
and she fell and like totally ruined it
her chance at gold medal
and when she fell, she put up a peace sign
which was like to Japanese people the coolest way of handling that
What are the positives and negatives about vlogging everyday?
For me the difference is that before I would say, people would invite me to places
and I'd be like 'ah, nah, maybe I'll stay in today'
but now everything, I say 'Yes' to
I've become like "Yes, Man"
Hey you wanna go do
Yeah sure!
You wanna?
Yeah, I'll do it.
Whatever, I don't care, I'll just go do it
What frightens me the most is the vision of falling behind
Say, I get drunk and I don't finish a vlog so the following day I have to get two vlogs done and then it's just a mess
The negative for me that Kris doesn't have to deal with
is keeping up feminine appearances
You mean makeup
Yeah, and hair
Like today I didn't do my hair
I think this is the first time people are seeing my hair down and curly
Curious as a vegetarian, Is it even possible to find good restaurants with tasty food?
Usually, there's something for vegetarians, it's rice with veggies
and that's a no-no?
There are specialty restaurants and there are options at cafes
it's just like traditional Japanese food
There's very little of it that has no meat in it
I know that the Japanese are crazy about France and Paris but are they also interested in other European cultures?
There's the big four
France, The UK, Germany, and Spain
France is like baguettes and the romantic beautiful city
Berlin is beer, Oktoberfest, sausages
The UK
British pubs maybe?
Yeah British pubs, fish & chips, English Britishness
Maybe some fashion elements, like the British, gentlemanly outfit
And then Spain, the food, tapas, the ocean, the like laid-back lifestyle
Anyway, Japanese affection with Paris is interesting but let's leave it for another time
You wanna switch glasses?
Yeah
Omg, my head is spinning, Ican't see

So slurping eating ramen is recommended, but what about other food?
Cand I slurp eating for instance broth? Would Japanese people get offended by that?
Other types of noodles too, but mostly ramen
For example when we houtou on the weekend with people
people were not slurping on that restaurant
I noticed that
So 1) you can always slurp with noodles because you're eating with chop sticks
2) It's believed that slurping enhances flavor
3) the reason you hear it especially in ramen is because ramen
is because ramen is always meant to be served super hot and eaten instantly
because you're supposed to eat the noodles at a certain hardness and so on
With the air pollution, is it very disturbing or are you used to this? (Compared to Krakow)
Well Krakow is one of the worst cities i Europe when it comes to air pollution so
Tokyo air is like sea breeze to me. It actually is sea breeze because there is sea
And it's not really that bad, is it?
As far as huge cities go, it's not that bad
What time do you wake up?
I usually work until about 5 a.m. so I wake up about 12
9, 10, 11 on a bad day and I go to sleep between 1 and 3
Our answers are so exciting
Can you tell us please how looks the situation with live shows in Japan, especially music events?
Prices are high in Japan
And as far as festivals, there are two really really popular ones now
And that's Fuji Rock and Summer Sonic
Ugh festival prices for three days are about 40,0000JPY maybe more
So 400USD
So we're always eating and visiting cool places, is this kind of lifestyle common in Japan or is it affordable with an average Japanese salary?
It's very common and I guess it's affordable
especially with lunch prices, you can eat out for very flashy things
that look like expensive restaurants.
But they're really cheap
Lunch specials usually cost 10 dollars
1,000 yen
Well the conversion rate is very different now
So 1,000JPY is about 8USD or 8,50USD, something like that
Can you show us a little bit more about religion in Japan?
We're gonna get into that a bit
Well it's not as regular of a practice
and it's not as strong of a for the average person
For our friends at least, religious practice is just maybe a few times a year
for the most important days
For New Year's, people would go to the temple
So it's not really a topic that you stumble upon on a daily basis in Japan
but we'll get into that
And there's actually one question that's been coming up so much
and that I think we answered but
Why are you Kris, why am I not Kate?
Like every single video has it
Alright let's explain this
So I'm gonna answer for myself
Krzysztof is a really difficult name to pronounce for anybody outside of Poland
It's nearly impossible to get a Japanese person to pronounce the name Krzysztof
They just laugh when I say it
I say it as a joke to Japanese people
Oh you know that Kris in Polish is actually Krzysztof?
And they go 'uhhhh, that's so funny, like I can't hear anything in this word'
So why would I go with this name in Japan?
It's just, you know, making things difficult for everybody
And as Kasia advised, I kept the K instead of CH to kind of signify that I'm a foreigner
I'm not like a native English speaker
because then my name would be spelled with a CH
So it's like a good balance
People feel that I should be going as Kate I guess
because I'm American, I dunno, it's also confused about what I am
I'm born in the U.S. and my whole life, I've basically been Kasia
I had a phase where I went by Kathy but that a whole different story
I use it because I can use it in any country
I've been to nearly twenty countries and no one struggles with it
so why would I change it
and yeah
There you have it
The mystery of the Uwaga Pies's names
