I think NCORE is important for a couple of reasons I mean for me personally I have
to say that you know by the end of each academic year after i've been out
traveling meeting with folks doing the educating the organizing
with community groups and and campuses all around the country
I'm pretty worn out and I think a lot of us who come to NCORE come because one
of the best things about it other than you know the information that you
received and the encouragement that you receive for the work that
you're doing around the country
is you get to recharge and so the thing about NCORE
as opposed to a lot of other conferences I don't know whether it's the timing or
the or the dynamic of the people but you really you know professionals who do
equity work
have the opportunity to really be in community and be connected to one
another and recharge to get through that summer where sometimes there's a little
bit of the letdown because you're not in the midst of the work as much as you are
let's say
during the you know that eight to nine months of the academic year so it serves
that purpose
but I also think that NCORE is special because
it's one of the very few places where you can go to a conference and really
have a hard time
choosing the sessions that you want to go to because there are so many that
you're interested in, the topics that are covered are just a huge
spectrum of
of issues and so you know that's a pretty good high class problem when
you're having to
choose between five sessions all of which you would go to on any other
normal day
a lot of time to go to a conference and you're like there is nothing here
I'm just going to go to the keynote speeches and
be done with that and the reality is with NCORE that's not the case there
are constantly good workshops, constantly good institutes being offered so it's
very special in that sense
