I'm Sam Craggs, I'm studying Music Technology and Popular Music
and I'm now in my fourth year
I chose this course because I would really like to have a portfolio based
career, and as soon as I saw the facilities and the modules on option
I knew that this was going to be the best place for me to develop
the necessary skills to achieve that really.
The facilities really jumped out at me when I came to visit.
A lot of them are state of the art and they're always being improved
all of the studios are professional standard, they all work with Logic and
ProTools which are industry standard bits of software.
This is one of the Mac labs that you can use at the University.
The computers are great for the up to date software that you are able to use
and kind of software that use in the industry as well.
There's great plug-ins so you can come in here and do work.
The course is modular based, so the idea Is that you can follow through a course
that suits you throughout the four years. So I've carried through the Performance
but added in more Composition as I've gone.
Final year you get to do an individual project, so I've chosen to do a lot of
writing and performing for that, and I get to chose the assessment for that
so I get my degree really fit to what I want to do, which is great.
On my placement I did a lot of professional level work
in the music industry, working with musicians, sound engineers, artists
coming back to University from it I am a lot more motivated, I know
what I have to do in order to achieve my goals as well, and also I feel
that I can work at a professional level now, which is really important.
I feel a lot more confidence here that I can achieve what I want to during
and after University now.
