Angus
I owned a studio in Ennis for close to 6 or 7 years
And after a while i just got to the point where I think I needed to see a little of the world
regardless of where it was in the world. I just needed to move and travel.
So I got an opportunity to work for a tattoo studio in Toronto called Lucky 13.
and got an aeroplane and landed in Toronto with a small bag of clothes and all my equipment and went from there.
From a very young age, I always had a need to draw
To actually reproduce rather than colour in what other people had done.
I would actually try and draw whats in colouring books rather than colour them.
Even done to the smallest and more mundane of Tattoos, I actually like to draw them in front of the customer.
I still to this day draw every shamrock for each customer as they come in.
Just down to the smallest tattoo, I really really enjoy drawing custom piece for people.
A lot of the early stuff I was doing back in the day was very illustrated
very straight out of a comic book nearly
While I got to Canada I got to work with a lot more traditional artists whose style was more based around
the actual traditional style of tattooing
By working with these people and by learning the intricacies of their style
I actually found a passion for it myself
My apprenticeship was old school.
It was being told what to do everyday and no matter what I did was wrong
and its kind of like the breaking of the spirit in order to build up the actual artist within
Like I said in the 16 years that I've been tattooing, I've only now just realized where I want to be
and I'm probably going to spend the next 10 years finding my style
So now that I know where I am in life and what I want to do, its now a matter of making it my own.
And thats where the next 10 years come in.
I also want to train an apprentice which appreciates what I appreciate
So we can learn from each other in the sense that sometimes an old head can learn from a young one.
