The two passengers who were killed in the crash of the Asiana Airlines jet were both
Chinese,. and there were more Chinese than Koreans on board the ill-fated plane.
Our Han Da-eun looks at how the Chinese media are reporting on the tragedy. Chinese media
outlets have spent much of their time updating audiences on the safety of the Chinese passengers
on board the flight. The state-run Xinhua News Agency and major
daily newspapers reported on the cause of the deadly crash-landing and its aftermath,.
after having confirmed the deaths of two Chinese female students.
"I thought it was weird when the plane was descending to land. It was flying lower than
the sea wall right next to the runway."
Xinhua explained,. the reason why there were more than 1-hundred-40 Chinese passengers
on board,. which was nearly half of the total,. is because China only has a few direct flights
to the U.S. And as a growing number of Chinese are heading
to the U.S. for travel and study,. more Chinese passengers are transferring to U.S.-bound
flights at Incheon International Airport. According to the Chinese media,. the Asiana
passenger list also included a group of 30 Chinese students.
The state-run CCTV was also quick to report on the latest developments in the incident,.
connecting with U.S. correspondents and Asiana Airlines headquarters throughout the day.
