"I have two kids, I have a twenty year old daughter and an eighteen year old son. So
we have been through this entire experience twice. I think they are actually both good
drivers, but you always knock on wood because all it takes is one bad decision. I just think
that this program, I think first of all the idea of going through the whole assessment
and looking at national statistics realizing that we don't have all the answers so we ought
to reach out and find out what additional information we can get is exactly the way
that all of our departments ought to be operating. So again I want to thank you for doing that.
Any parent who has been through the process of helping their kids learn to drive, know
how important it is and how stressful it can be. We also know how different it is, just
because you are a good driver does not mean you are going to be a good teacher for your
kid. So this Parent's Supervised Driving Program is not really designed to put any additional
burden on kids, but to make us more effective when we are working with our kids and really
to provide the support to parents. Recognizing the unbelievably important role that parents
can play in this training. So Jen showed this handbook, it is a handbook of tips, making
it easier to learn and teach the rules of the road and help parents be good role models.
There's a fifty hour minimum drive time with teens, we urge more we know it takes much
more than those fifty hours to become good drivers. We encourage parents to plan a day
trip with your new drivers to some place unfamiliar, let your teen drive as often as possible before
they become licensed, and take every opportunity to ensure that they get the experience they
need out on the road."
