I’m a background as a teacher
then when I came to the country, the first thing, English was a barrier for me
so I can’t go out teaching Secondary School because I have to improve my English.
One day there was an open day here in Stafford University.
I was interested to go to see what is going to be there.
I went to a part-time course because of
obligations in my house and my family.
I can’t do full time because I’ve got rent to pay, I’ve the bills to pay.
So I think if I do part time and keep my job
so I can look after everything and then
be happy for the rest of my life.
Real seismic changes for part-time Students, probably bigger changes there
than for full-time students in fact.
In the past
you've had to pay
your fees upfront if you wanted to go to a part-time course. now most courses
Now most courses you're going to get a loan. Unfortunately fees have gone up, that’s the bad news
but this loan is just like the loan that full-time students get.
You will only have two repay it
once you’re earning above £21,000 and then
you only repay 9% of everything you earn above that in exactly the same way, which means
if you don't in a big salary afterwards if you don't earn above that threshold
you'll never repay anything.
You don't get a maintenance loan, though. You’re going to have to look after your living costs for yourself.
If somebody is in a job
and they are thinking to do part time study, I would tell him “Go for it”,
because it’s a benefit for him and for his future.
