>> Probably the two main reasons that a patient might need ear tubes or consideration
of ear tubes would be that they're having recurrent infections where they need to be
on antibiotics, or they're having fluid that's behind the eardrums that won't go away
after a reasonable amount of time.
And some patients have both.
But those are kind of the two main considerations.
In the situation where they're having recurrent infections, there's the discomfort
that the child might be in keeping them up at night, and a lot of times, you know,
little ones won't eat well, know they'll just be very fussy, pulling at their ears,
that sort of thing, and often fevers, and being treated then with antibiotics.
Antibiotics are good, we like antibiotics, but not in excessive amounts,
and so there does come a point where doing something in addition to being treated
with antibiotics can be helpful to decrease the number of infections that they might have.
