So now that my pointer is set where I want it to be I would just swing it out of the
way cause it is on the turntable. And when I return it, it would be exactly where I want
to be in the first place. I would take my ball of clay; throw it down hard in the center
of the wheel. You want to put your weight through your left arm. You can lean on your
splash pan; put your elbow into your hip. Whatever it takes to get your body weight,
the force that the clay is having to fight against rather than your own strength. Now
I'm going to have the clay pushing into the heel of my left hand and I?m going to use
my right hand to push towards that hand. I want my sponge to be wet enough so where I
squeeze it water would come out but it is not dripping on its own. Get that clay a little
wet and now I'm pushing with my right hand towards my left hand and bringing it up. Now
I would make a fist and push down with my right hand and support it with my left hand
so it does not push out to far. With my left pinkie pushing in a little further so that
there is a little bit of a undercut there. Once the piece feels or looks like it is moving
very much it is on center and you are ready to start throwing.
