How I started listening to Joy Division?
I guess it was like...
four years dude.
I was in a time where...
I needed another kind of music .
The Hook: The importance of being a fan
Project conducted for the documentary film subject
-This release is in mid-semester
because in the end you will give me the final script
with the full folder.
Good afternoon, excuse I'm talking from the UABC
and I was wondering if I could...
I could contact to some person
to make and interview.
-Hello?
-Good afternoon.
-Can you call tomorrow from 11:00 to 3:00pm?
-Yes?
-My name is Elvis Casas, I'm calling from the UABC
yesterday I call to see if I could get the name of any person
so I can go to submit a letter to make a interview
about Peter Hook's concert.
-What you're looking for is an accreditation
and that you would have to ask to Francisco Meza
he will tell you what can you record and what you can't
you need to contact him.
I thought it was an interview about the company...
I can give you a e-mail and he will tell you if he
give you the accreditation or not.
-The red was to record?
-Dude I had pressed it!
-Go on, go on.
-This event, Peter Hook's concert
a few weeks earlier New Order's party come up
so it is perfect because is the same person.
What a drastic change isn't?
What Joy Division did and what New Order do.
But anyway, I preffer Joy Division.
Once I was...
in a party, in a club,
and I see that everybody was dancing.
And I said "wow, what have that song?"
Then I ask, who is that song?
"From New Order", but they didn't gave me any details.
In a while we are going to ask for the letter...
I hope they give it to us immediately.
The purpose is to record video right?
And interview the producers.
All about Peter Hook's concert is on september 28th
And the whole point of this is the creation of a documentary
The third time's the charm
Let's see if this is the case
-Good morning we came to ask for a letter...
for a concert in the Black Box...
-A letter?
-For Tuesday
-Good afternoon, past tuesday we came to ask for a letter...
that we need to submit to Black Box.
-Oh your letter! I have it started.
Done.
The documentary is about the local music scene...
in Tijuana and this concert that you...
are going to make fits perfectly with out project.
So we want to see...
Dude I have wasted my words now...
they are not going to go out in there.
We are coming down from Black Box
We are about to go out from Black Box...
with not very encouraging news.
Honestly I thought they would recieve us...
with more tolerance...
and whit enthusiasm but that was not the case.
Good afternnon...
this is Xavier student of the UABC...
we were here because we want to contact you to see...
if we can make a documentary, if you give us approval...
a documentary on the Black Box...
everything to be maked on...
Peter Hook's event.
We have already send you a e-mail and today...
we just went to Black Box to leave a letter.
Can you give us a date?
Very well, so we send you a e-mail rigth now with
all our data, very well
he says that we send him...
Our date is Tuesday but...
he need and e-mail right now to see about New Order.
The importance of being a fan...
I guess is always stick true to...
the music, to the band...
and realize in what moment...
in what moment say...
"this song fits for this moment".
Or I don't know, maybe you are outside...
or you are goint to see a tribute...
knowing in what moment enjoy the song...
you can enjoy it because...
the sound varies...
they have very moved song...
and a very slow ones.
You have to know how to enjoy...
the music, the song, especially the lyrics...
that's the important thing.
Another element who also came to cut off
the preview sound.
I consider that...
it is important to keep the...
the relation...
with the CD...
or the vinyl especially...
this day is a little more complicated to get a vinyl.
But it is important to have a original CD...
of your favorite band...
in this case it would be...
Joy Division.
A original record...
especially the first one.
It's very hard to classify a Joy Division fan...
we have a lot of...
lot of ideologies; I guess...
a lot of people must think...
that this band...
a lot of people clasified it like depressive music...
music to be in a corner...
but I don't believe in that.
The crowd in New Order's tribute...
I guess it was what I expected...
I expected more people...
from Tijuana's oldschool...
and so it was, I think that...
doing the math 70% was...
oldschool people...
and the rest were just like us, young people...
who went with the illusion of...
win a ticket...
remeber they were giving away tickets.
He didn't answer dude.
-Voicemail?
Voicemail.
Good afternoon, Francisco Meza...
we sent you a e-mail asking for accreditations...
to record Peter Hook's concert...
and check if the accreditations were set.
Yes.
Just for one person...
The limit is for one person?
Then just one person for Peter Hook.
Well, we also want to ask the way to get there...
before the show, and record the assemblage.
We can't.
Why Joy Division sound remain in force?
I guess it is because of the impact of the event...
Ian Curtis' suicide...
because that was a point...
where the band explodes like...
like a myth.
As a band the dream comes to change
in a drastic way...
what it was before...
we have... I don't know...
progressive rock...
we already have punk from before...
but Joy Division came to introduce differents...
atmospheres to the music.
A lot of people who...
punks especially...
they started listening to this music and they said...
oh this is different too...
thats why it's called postpunk...
what comes after.
I guess a lot of those young people...
who came to listen to that band...
they kept alive the music.
I feel that today...
it still have that...
underground feeling...
unlike New Order...
who got a more commercial sound...
more New Wave.
Joy Divison is very hard to clasify...
I could put it like postpunk.
However...
sometimes you don't always see...
for example here in Tijuana...
you don't always see bands play...
Joy Division song's...
or have a tribute to Joy Division...
or a night of Joy Division's music...
thats why I say it stills feel underground.
But we can't enter with cameras...
not even with a camera this little.
For a moment we thought it will be incomplete...
let see how it goes;
we have a second chance and we hope it is good.
-Two songs is what I have autorized for press...
that is what you can record.
-There are no problem with "that" camera?
Are they going to let us record?
-Who is goin to enter?
-I think me, come on.
-Are you recording over here?
We are going to enter...
when the artist show up.
On Peter Hook's concert...
I have another expectations...
I say the public are going to be divided...
I think you will notice that...
that "division"...
between the oldschool crowd...
and the new crowd...
but honestly I saw more people...
more people from the oldschool...
especially behind the...
the little spot where...
the riot happend.
