For Revolved Shells there is a segmentation option available.
By default, this option is not enabled in the Info Box, only in the Settings Dialog.
We can activate the Info Box page of the Work Environment Dialog… select the Shell Tool
on the list on the left… and enable the display of the Segmentation panel.
Then we will have it available in the Info Box. By default, the Revolved Shell is generated
as a smooth surface. One of the other options is Segments along Circle.
With our setting of 12, the Revolved Shell is divided into 12 segments along a full circle.
In our example the Revolution Angle is 270 degrees, which means the Shell is divided
into 9 segments.
If we switch to the Segments along Arc option, then the 270 degree arc will be divided into
12 segments. Using this option we can create some interesting geometries.
Let us create the Profile Polygon of this Revolved Shell on the surface of this Wall,
and specify a vertical Revolution Axis for it. Let us delete the auxiliary Wall and set
the Revolution Angle to 360 degrees.
Let us now set our Segmentation option to Segments along Circle, and set its value to
6. The result will be a 6-segment Roof structure, something we might see in eastern architecture.
If we set its value to 4, we can get some interesting rectangular Roof geometries. In
such a case, we need to be aware that the Profile is measured along the hips, not at
the middle of the Roof planes.
This needs to be taken into consideration when the Profile Polygon is defined.
