Let's talk about a special rule, a house rule, that you'll typically find in five card draw
games. Basically, it is applied more at home games than it is in a casino, poker room or
a card room. It's that you cannot draw more than three cards, unless you have an ace.
The reason that the rule exists, principally, is if you're playing in a large game, say
that there are six people or even seven seated at the table, you have the potential to run
out of cards to draw. What you do is you have a rule that only if you have an ace in your
hand, may you have more than three cards. The way that would work is you look at your
hand, you don't like it but you have an ace, so you say "I draw four." In some cases the
house rule is that you have to show your ace, in other cases, the house rule is "we trust
you" and if you get called on it later, you'll have to show your ace. Decide what the house
rule is for your game and, also, if you consider the players at your game all proficient good
poker players, it's not a necessary house rule because most of the time you're not going
to have players staying in and drawing, when they don't need to. That's the house rule,
special rule, about when you can draw four, decide when you need it and happy playing.
