I am a regional seller. I work with Canada's west mountain region which i represent Jasper, Banff, Lake Louise
and up in Whistler here
I do corporate groups, corporate associations
and I do 30 rooms or less in BC is my market
so after school, I had an opportunity to go to England and i worked at a hotel there
120 rooms Shire Hotels and I was able to do every single position there because it was such a small hotel
The favourite part of my job is that I get to bring clients here to the hotel, I get to show case Whistler and what the hotel has to offer
each group that I work with is different in what they need and I really
enjoy being able to get to know the clients and having them return back to the hotel
I love living in Whistler
this is a really good fit for me
i don't have to commute to work my drive is about 7 and a half minutes
it's a humongous outdoors playground. I love to be outside and
basically you walk out the door here after work, and you can run, you can bike
and you get to ski here in the winter on an internationally renowned ski resort
so definitely benefits to be living here
my education at Douglas definitely prepared me to work closely with the team
at Douglas we did many many many group projects. And.you learn to work with different personalities. you learn to work with deadlines
and that, I think was probably the biggest help.
there's also some practical things we learned at Douglas that helped me understand behind-the-scenes items
So things we did in the beverage class
or that we did with Mary in the kitchen or
certain items that helped when I got here
you know the terminology so that was
also very helpful to my career here
i think that you need so you be patient
you need to ask all the questions you can ask every opportunity and you need to
take the time to understand the bigger picture. Doesn't matter what role
you're in in a hotel. you can start in hospitality, you can always work
way up
and that's a fantastic thing is. Hospitality is such an international business that
you can travel for a position
and then when you get there. Learn as much as you can and move up very quickly.
