The Eiffel Tower was built
during the Universal Exhibition of 1889.
Eiffel Tower : sold !
In 1925, Victor Loustig,
sold the Eiffel Tower !
It uses a rumor that the Eiffel Tower will be dismantled.
With an accomplice, they pretend they are
the Deputy Minister of France and his chief of staff.
They invite a few materials recovering companies
to visit the Eiffel Tower.
They will manage to sell to the most credulous company
that will pay a quarter of the amount by check.
The two crooks cashed the check and went to live in Austria.
My biggest ennemy : the stairs !
The steps of the Eiffel tower are more than a dream.
I'm sure even you said you'd go up there
walking and counting them.
In 1891, Sylvain Dornon
get up to the first floor on stilts.
In 1905 it was Mr Forestier
that went up to the second floor in 3 minutes and 12 seconds.
Since 2014, a race is held for up to the 3rd floor.
It represents 1665 steps.
Let's swing in Paris !
In 1952, a trapeze artist, Rose Gold,
demonstrates at 118m in height, without a net !
A beautiful walk !
In 1989, the tightrope walker Philippe Petit
connected the Trocadero to the Eiffel Tower
by walking on a cable length of 767m.
Finally, in 1996, Alain Robert
climbs the Eiffel Tower with bare handsand unattached.
He reached the top in 45 minutes!
A little history
The Eiffel Tower was not designed by Gustave Eiffel.
It was designed by the two men
who worked at the Eiffel & Cie.
In 1884, they show a sketch of the tower Gustave Eiffel
but he does not find this interesting project.
This is the chief architect of the company redesigns the project
and make the tower more massiv.
This new sketch appeals to Gustave Eiffel.
So much that he immediately files a patent
in his name and those of the designers.
He quickly redeems all rights.
That's why the tower bears his name.
Some love it, others hate it.
But what is certain is that the Eiffel Tower has inspired a lot of people
to push their limits. Everything is possible !
