Some sentences can start a war in a matter of seconds. Here's one.
Melee is better than Brawl !
No matter your opinion on the subject, I think we can all agree on one thing : Final Smashes were a HUGE step forward.
Nothing is more satisfying than the moment when you grab the Smash Ball and are about to unleash all you power on the ennemy.
However, it is undeniable than some Final Smashes were way better than the others.
This why I will here count down the 10 Best Final Smashes of Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
My choice is based upon their apparence, the way you use them, their effectiveness in terms of damages and knockback, the refrences to previous games, and the satisfaction they bring.
And don't forget : everyone has different tastes. You have the right to disagree with me and that's not a reason to be disparaging.

Top Ten Best Final Smashes
The Final Smash of Red, aka the Pokémon Trainer, is pretty good.
The Triple Finish combines Ivysaur's SolarBeam, which goes straight forward and traps ennemies,
Charizard's Fire Blast, a bit wider and burning, and Squirtle's Hydro Pump, that goes diagonally and causes minimal damages.
It's a varied combining allowing a pretty large vertical range, and that inflicts various damage accoridng to how the ennemy dodged.
Also, the text box at the bottom of the screen is a nice touch that's not without its charms,
even though I would have prefered it to be from the 1st generation rather than the 4th one.
But for that matter, I would have prefered the attacks to be Frenzy Plant, Blast Burn and Hydro Cannon. Details.
This Final Smash is still pretty cool.
The Negative Zone lacks range and doesn't last very long. Why is it here ?
Simply because if your foes are unfortunate enough to enter the Negative Zone, it causes...
drastically reduced attack power
greater launch distance when hit
increased likelihood of slipping
steady increase in damage percentage
flower growth on head
dizziness
uncontrollable taunting
sudden sleepiness
decreased movement speed
PENGUIN !
That's nice.
I should also talk about the symbolism of this Final Smash, since it references the fact that Luigi lives in its brother's shadow,
and represents the moment were he embraces this shadow. Nice. And also kinda creepy.
Strangely enough, among all the Final Smashes in the games, the Blue Falcon is the only one to have a cinematic aspect.
Captain Falcon jumps in his vehicle, launch his foes on a road, and...
Unfortunately, this Final Smash has several problems. Especially its... ridiculous range.
But if only for the cinematic aspect, it deserves a place in the list.
Even though it would have been nice if that aspect have been polished a bit more.
Falcon could for example jump out of his vehicle after having sent the ennemy flying to deliver him a Falcon Punch and...
Oh no.
I am so sorry.
Alright, I know this is cheating but... It's a tie.
The first #7 of the list is the Zero Laser.
How can you not like it ? IT'S A GIANT LASER. AND IT IS BLUE.
With its great horizontal AND vertical range and its wrenching power, the ennemies caught in the laser can only watch themselves get atomized.
Prepare to be vaporised. Thank you.
However, there's a major flaw to this Final Smash... You turn into Zero Suit Samus. Rather problematic if you don't like playing with her.
The second #7 is Yoshi's Super Dragon.
It's a nice reference to Super Mario World where he was able to fly by eating a blue shell and spit fire by eating a red shell.
Here, he can do both at the same time without eating a shell and no matter his color. Sure. Nintendo logic.
The important thing is that this Final Smash is powerful enough, but mostly that it lasts for a very long time,
which lets you all the time you need to chase your fleeing opponents. Muahahahaha.
The End of Day can be summarised in a few words : Olimar flies away in his spaceship, burrying the nearest ennemies,
then goes in the skies while the night is falling an Bulbords are invading the stage, attacking the enemies left on the ground,
and then the spaceship comes down and explodes.
Aside from some nitpicks, like the fact that you can't move the spaceship while it is falling down, or that you can easily avoid the Bulbords by jumping,
this Final Smash is pretty effective and really fun.
Even though I don't understand why the Pikmins stay on the ground. And why they survive.
And why they chose the Hotcate Ship rather than the Dolphin -I freaking HATE this ship !
But the reference to Pikmin, where you have to get back in the ship before night, when ferocious beasts come out, is pretty nice.
Remember to be back before it's dark or BULBORDS WILL EAT YOU.
Do I even have to introduce the Great Aether ? Ike slashes you in the air with a flaming sword before landing in an explosion.
Mother of God.
This move is not only stylish but also very powerful, inflicting a lot of damage and more than often chucking out the ennemies.
And to counterbalance its short range, three ennemies can be caught at once.
Seriously ? Dood !
Not to forget his scream... Epic.
GREAT... AETHEEEEEEEEEEEEEER !
It's so bad.
Aaaaaaanyway.
You know what they say Do three references in a row.
Zelda's Light Arrow is a 95% one-hit K.O.. It has a huge horizontal range and, oddly enough, a decent vertical range.
The Light Arrow is pretty stylish as it is, but what really makes its charm is the zoom on the victim when she's being pierced.
It's this one second zoom that gives all its coolness to this Final Smash.
Not awesome / Awesome
I chose Zelda's rather than Sheik's for two reasons.
The first one is that Zelda's Light Arrow makes ennemies fly in the same direction than the arrow,
whereas Sheik's makes them go sideways, which gives them a small possibility to bounce on a wall and survive.
The second reason, more important, is that, unlike Zelda, Sheik never used the Light Arrow in the games. I would have liked something different.
But anyway, this Final Smash is excellent. Powerful, effective, stylish, satisfying, it doesn't lack much to be higher on the list.
Bowser's Final Smash is simply as awesome as it can get. Having him transform into Giga Bowser, Melee's final boss, was pure genius.
And good lord is it satisfying. As soon as you transform, everyone flees.
But it doesn't matter. Ten seconds are widely enough to catch up with them and crush them one by one.
Giga Bowser got the same moves as Bowser, but along with fire and physical moves, he also has darkness, explosive, and even ice and electric moves !
Now THAT'S what you call a complete moveset.
Imposing, and even terrifying, this LSD version of Bowser is 2 or 3 times the size of the original, which offers a great range along with incredible strength.
Sure, attacking him inflicts him damage, but that would be like commiting suicide.
None... can escape... the rage... of the great... GIGA BOWSER MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA...
Seriously though, this Final Smash is awesome.
I had to put the Triforce Slash here. I'll make it short, because it is quite self-explanatory.
One ! The Triforce Slash does 78% damage, and the last hit is most the time a one-hit knock-out. And even when it doesn't... 78% is quite a handicap.
Two ! Link's Triforce Slash has a pretty good range unlike Toon Link's, and can trap the ennemies near the one attacked.
Three ! Using the Triforce Slash brings an IMMENSE satisfaction. All is set up so that your opponent feels anihilated by the attack.
Four ! While we're on the topic of appearence, the Triforce Slash is simply as stylish as possible.
You are trapped in the sacred seal of the Triforce, while Link is beating the hell out of you, before breaking the seal with a final blow, knocking you off.
Now THAT is what you call finishing off.
I don't see how there could be a better Final Smash... Unless one of the characters transformed into a giant zombie laser-shooting squirrel.
But that doesn't happen. So I don't see how there could be a better Final Smash.
Except of course the #1 on this list. TRAN-SI-TION !
OBJECTION ! HOLD IT !
I suppose some of you are shaking their head in confusion right now.
However, it really is R.O.B.'s Diffusion Beam, the Final Smash that wasn't even on the Dojo, that find itself at Number 1. Why ?
First of all, this move is extremely powerful when used right. It can, in theory, inflict a maximum of 300%, and in practice it's easy to inflict at least 100%.
This is mad easier by the long duration of the move, lasting between 15 and 20 seconds, and believe me, to your foes, it will seem forever.
Also, nothing can stop you when using this.
R.O.B. becomes invincible, and even though there's a death ray coming out of his sensors, he's still able to use almost all of his moves, and even to use items !
There's two different types of beam. The first one has a long range, and inflicts a considerable amount of damage,
while the second one has a shorter range and finishes off the ennemy for good.
Also, this attack is FUN to use. the strategy can be summed up in one word : CHASE. Watching your ennemies flee their deadly fate is a delight.
Its appearence is nothing special, but I think its simplicity is why it is great. When seeing R.O.B. like this, here is what always comes to my mind :
A fatal exception has occured. The application will be terminated. Press any key to terminate the current application.
Pres CTRL+ALT+DEL to restart your computer. You will lose any unsaved information in all applications. Press any key to continue.
The Diffusion beam is funny, powerful, effective, pleasant to use, and satisfying to perform. That's what makes it the best Final Smash in Super Smash Bros. Brawl.
