Hi everyone and welcome back to the last update on the ASU-85 Group Build.
As you can see the vehicle is finished now, weathering is done aswell.
At the end of the video you can find some detail pictures of the model.
Now i want to tell you quickly what i did with the model,
as you can see the weathering is quite heavy, at least the mud and dust.
I took this model with me to the model building exhibition in Rain am *** and used it to demonstrate weathering techniques.
Of course the weathering will be very heavy in the end when you demonstrate all kinds of weathering techniques on one model.
I think the dirty and gunky look suits a Russian tank very well, no offence but thats how i imagine a Russian tank.
It may not be very realistic, i know that, but weathering makes a lot of fun and sometimes its hard to hold yourself back.
I applied no chipping at all, the paintwork is pretty much "factory-new" which should be quite realistic.
There is a lot of dirt and dust on the tank,
but let´s assume the tank was in a long training manoeuvre and the crew had no time to clean the tank.
I made the mud and dust weathering the usual way using MIG pigments and wood glue.
I applied the wood glue mainly on the running gear and above the tracks and sprinkled some pigments on it,
like "Russian earth", "dark mud" and "dry mud".
I used the same pigments on the upper parts of the tank aswell, i simply brushed them on without any pigment fixer.
This way i created the dusty look of the model.
Furthermore i applied some oil and grease stains, for example on those additional tanks, for that i used "fuel stains" from AK Interactive.
You can use it aswell for leaking oil and grease on the wheels which discolours the mud on the wheels.
For weathering the tracks i used something new, "track wash" from AK Interactive.
Maybe you can see the effect on the picture on the bottle, its quite dark and rusty.
This tone might not be perfect for modern tanks, i thinned it down a bit with odourless turpentine and i like the result.
I can recommend it to you guys, if you like very dirty tracks. Its easy to use.
I used to spray a light coat of dark brown over the tracks but i will use this stuff more often in the future, results were good.
It looks a bit better and you don´t have to clean your airbrush as you apply it with a normal brush.
Apart from that i drybrushed the model a bit with Matt91 "iron" to give it that metallic glare, most likely you can´t see it right now. Maybe on the detail pictures.
I covered the edges a bit with a soft pencil to give it more metallic glare.
It was definately a very nice and interesting project, it was cool to have so many participants.
I loved it to follow your progress videos.
I think most of you are finished already, i think Fernando is not yet finished with the model.
Go on Fernando, i´m sure you will finish it soon aswell. I know the tracks are the most fiddly part, especially when you are not used to them.
I´m sure you will manage them and assemble them beautifully!
Many thanks to storm for hosting this Group Build with me, it was a great experience,
i´m always open for another one with you as long as i´m interested in the kit of course.
It was a great project and Russian tanks have certainly something that appeals to me.
Alright, now you will see some pictures of the model, see you in the next video, your Hamilkar Barkas.
