In Wellington now
where the Tokelau International Festival
was held over the last three days.
Peata Melbourne was there.
They gathered from Rotorua, Taupo and other parts of the world,
each proudly representing their regions.
A contingent from a Tokelau language and culture school from Hawaii
participated in the 40th anniversary of the Tokelau Easter Festival.
The Tokelauan community is probably one of the smallest island groupings
that have made residence here in NZ.
The 2006 New Zealand Consensus identified over 6,000 Tokelauans
living in NZ, and 3,000 of those live in the Wellington region.
Many of those living here,
like Bella Perez were brought up coming to these festivals.
Prize giving will end the festivities for another two years
when they'll all return.
Peata Melbourne, Te Karere.
