The magic thing
today is now knowing your readers so well. There's a phrase that I was
taught that is always echoing in my head from a book
it's when you go to a hardware store you go to buy a quarter-inch drill
you don't want a quarter-inch drill,
you want a quarter-inch hole.
You're hiring the drill to do a job.
Readers today are hiring you to do a job
It could begin to be entertaining, it could be enriched, it could be to empowered them
to vote better, all these things. But you know, most of these websites are niche
sites catering to women, catering to sports fans of a certain stripe, catering
to a political you know uh... advocates group committing committing to
entrepreneurs any of these things. You need to know that audience so well
that you know every time you're writing for them and they're
going to have this job, this satisfaction by the way you specifically wrote for them.
It doesn't have to be neutral news, it doesn't have to be opinion, it can be all the
different things that are out there,
but it has to be doing a job that satisfies them. That's what keeps them, that's what keeps
them coming back, and that's what makes you build a real community on your site.
