Hi, this is Eric Stearns with Expert Village. We're going to be covering fire safety in
construction. Right now we're going to be talking about some of the basic tools we're
going to using to start fire. This is a magnesium fire starter. There are a variety of different
kinds that are out there. It is a magnesium rod, with a flint rod inserted into the back
of it for striking. We have a box of hurricane matches, or weather....water-proof, severe
weather matches. This is a bottle of cotton balls that have been soaked in Vaseline for
use for man-made tender in the event that it's too wet or too windy to use natural materials.
And we also have some jute twine. This is man-made, basically, postal twine that makes
a lovely tender when it is cut, unfretted, and curled into a ball. It basically has the
consistency of hair, very light, very dry, excellent for starting fire.
