Hello, welcome, my name is Jessica, and you are? Hi, I'm Daniel. Daniel and? I'm Martha.
We are having our final level students,
our advanced students participate in live simulation
mediations
with actors.
I wouldn't have an attitude if people would listen to what I have to say. Well maybe listen to what we have to say too.
I'm getting behind. I'm getting frustrated.
Each mediator will be faced with a party who has their own challenges as it relates to a conflict.
and then creates challenges and dilemmas for the mediator to deal with as they would
in a real mediation in the field. So what the students are doing
is as close to real practice in mediation as you can get
and they are video recorded so we can do stop and go analysis
of their work. We are the only program that uses this type of learning
which is live simulation role play with a peer-reviewed process at the end.
It's very exhausting but it's exciting when they can see their skills growing like that.
And so that's a really tough set of conditions to work under.
The certificate is called a certificate in mediation and conflict resolution and it's sponsored by
The Center for Continuing Education
here at UW-Superior. A lot of our students are managers
in businesses. Some of them are interested in law school
so this is part of their law school preparation, some of them are looking to
start their own
mediation practice right here in our region so we're helping to equip
professionals
in this work and some of the students are interested in peacemaking
and learning more skills of conflict resolution so they're here to expand
their skill set as part of their liberal arts education.
Do you have any other issues or concerns right now?
