How's it going guys?
Welcome to another explained k-pop theory video.
This time, it's about KARD's "You In Me".
You are about to witness a story of cheating, despair, and abandonment.
So... be ready to have some feels.
So in the first scene, we see the entrance of the hotel with the obvious text above saying
"Apego", which in Spanish means attachment or addiction
setting the theme of the music video.
Next, we see pairs of the group in separate rooms.
Jiwoo and J.Seph in one, and BM and Somin in another.
There, you can see a clear difference between the couples.
On Jiwoo and J.Seph's side, we see them all dressed up and having a fine dining experience together.
The next room over, we see B.M. and Somin in a messy, unkept room and ignoring each other.
This is a heavy couple/relationship theme
because we never see the whole group together unless it's during a dance segment.
To begin with, B.M. is seen blatantly ignoring Somin when she says
"You are my everything and nothing can replace you."
B.M. does hold a beer bottle in hand throughout all the motel scenes
hinting back to the Apego meaning addiction, but that's just a small detail.
Later, J.Seph has a rap break where he depicts his struggle of a lost love
where he feels like he can't control his heartbeat and "My struggle is half-dead."
which is manifested later in the music video.
Between both of the couples, the only thing that is the same is B.M. and J.Seph's lethargicness
almost acting like a shell of themselves containing no emotion.
I believe this is because throughout each of the relationship, they suffered the same fate
after a strain by a tragic event in that relationship.
And an interesting scene is where Jiwoo is seen adjusting J.Seph's tie
trying to maintain this outside look that their relationship is fine, but on the inside, we know it's not.
B.M's rap, however, is the most interesting part of the song
saying "It's gone too far to restore dead us."
Both J.Seph and B.M. talk about this dead feeling.
Why? They both had something done to them by their loved one.
J.Seph's response is he can't forget about her while he suffers the most
B.M. takes a more vengeful stance, saying
"I should have breathed after saving too much. It rather held your breath."
Now, of course, that is a rough translation.
But what happened to them to turn into lifeless zombies as seen in this music video?
I believe it is because in J.Seph and Jiwoo's case, Jiwoo cheated on him.
In the song, Jiwoo repeats the lines, "You are the only one I love."
which I think it's saying after being with someone else, J.Seph is gone
and Jiwoo wants him back after what she's done saying, "You're the only one I love."
B.M and Somin's story is one of abandonment.
There is some course throughout the relationship Somin abandons BM
and is sorry for it, trying to take him back as well.
Just like Jiwoo, Somin repeats the lines, "I call you like this. You, you don't answer, I apologize."
B.M. doesn't answer because after Somin left for so long, B.M. doesn't handle it well.
Instead of moving on, he lets the darkness consume him, as mentioned multiple times in the lyrics.
Towards the end, you see Somin finally realizing what she's done, and loses it.
After her hysteria, Somin grabs onto the body of B.M.
symbolizing she can't gain him back, at least, not the way he used to be.
Jiwoo is more calm and seen lying with J.Seph
like she has accepted her actions and what happened to J.Seph, almost dying along with him.
At the end, the last line cements their true feelings.
Leading to what I believe, a question you should ask yourself is:
"Why do we always hurt the ones we love the most?"
Okay, that was a rough one.
But thank you guys for sticking around for that one.
Writing this, and looking into it, and thinking of what it meant to me, and portraying these ideas
I got a little emotional as well. That is amazing of what KARD has done.
This whole album, this whole concept was all emotion, and I loved that.
But anyways guys, I hope you guys enjoy my theory and explanation on this music video
If you have any ideas to add upon it, or maybe critique mine, I'd love to hear about it.
