hello everybody it's Winston Torr here.
welcome to my drawing faces part 1 of 2.
in this series basically I'm going to show you a bit of my practice on how I draw faces.
there are no actual rules, I just do what I do.
first I start out with a basic shape.
an oval shape, then I draw a little upside down triangle creating
the nose with spontaneous gestures.
I am going to start out with a male face.
The purpose of this video is to learn how to draw a face freestyle with no rules or measuring, just eyeballing.
I don't have a particular method or start with a particular part of the face.
I just do as I feel.
sometimes I start with the eyes and sometimes the nose. sometimes the lips.
sometimes I just draw circles until the shape of the head forms
like I said I don't have any given way to start.
there are no rules. just draw.
the first part of this video is drawing faces
and the second part in this series we will be using the same faces
but I would be showing how to shade the faces in with watercolor so
right now I'm drawing in the eyes
basically you see the person in front of you
or a picture or whatever you want to use and just lightly draw over some
areas to shape the eyes and nose and mouth and give more definition
afterwards to emphasize the features so slowly I am doing the eyes right now
and now the eyebrows
there's a little bit of measure.
I normally don't measure that much
I like to put little points where the eyebrows start from the tip of the outer nose
to the outer eye of each side I like to draw little lines to show me how
the eyebrows form and where the arch would start with the eyebrows would start in the inside and the outside
now drawing the nose
by the way the pencil that I am using is faber castell
there's no specific pencils I grab whatever
Also an eraser.
I will list everything below in the description.
also the paper that I am using is hahnemuhle
so now I am starting with darkening the pupils.
it's a process drawing faces are a part process so it's quite meditative
I try not to erase as much although sometimes I am a perfectionist.
sometimes I just want some part of the face exactly the way I wanted
and now I'm
just going throughout the whole face and adding little features that I see fit
from the person's face the widow's peak the eye the shadows from the eye
now I'm defining the parts of the eyes, drawing the contour of the face.
the cheekbones the jawline the chin the shadows
I was going to post a speed drawing but I was not sure
let me know down below in comments if this would work as a speed drawing or a speed video session
This is the first first time I am posting something like this as a tutorial
so felt like taking some time so you can see exactly what I am doing without rushing
I hope this is helpful somewhat. now I'm drawing the hair, the sideburns
giving a hairstyle that's quite contemporary or not contemporary but a classic hairstyle
the ears
so now just shading in a little bit
and then the hair
just drawing in, I'm focusing more on the face and less on the hair at the moment
so please do excuse me if the hair is not as well polished as the face
hair would be another series
I particularly love drawing eyes
there's something about eyes that capture the person and the inner soul
it's just it's quite what's the word here
alluring alluring would be the word I love making the outside of the iris
darker than the inside of the eyeball and just a touch of eyeliner and
remember this is just the pencil
in the next video I will be shading in with watercolor
right now I'm just adjusting a bit and adding definition and shadows
so the highlights pop out a bit more off from the t-zone. a bit of the hair
so yeah a bit of a shape
defining the eyebrows a bit
now I am filling in more shadows around the nose to bring out the
three-dimensional features
again this tutorial is not to create a realistic face
the faces that I like to create are a mixture of realistic and sketchiness
I love lines and now we are going to start with the female face
so I'm just starting with the oval shape drawing circles.
on the male I started with the eyes
on the female I mixed it up a little.
drawing a line for the eyes
and line in the center of the face as well as the upside down triangle for where
the eyes end and start the eyebrows
I changed up a little and wanted to line up the eyes of both the male
and the female face
now I'm starting with the eyes drawing the pupil
I had to cut away a little the my camera stopped for some reason
everybody has their own way and style of drawing what features they like starting with
I love to read and find out how all of you are drawing so please comment below to
let me know whether you enjoy starting with the eyes first or the eyebrows ears
nose lips hair generally this is quite interesting as I work mostly alone.
When I do work with people in conventions or portrait shows,
well as as we do portraits I tend to glance over at my
colleagues way and see what they do. it's quite surprising and enlightening to see not
just a enlightening although also quite very interesting to find out what makes
people tick
yeah so comment below and let me know
I just shade the eyes of the lady
I did not like the nose so i erased the nose.
starting with a little bit of eyebrows. now shading in the nose
another camera mishap
so I'm finishing the eyes lining in the eyes the nose is about shape now for the
Cupid's bow of the lips
drawing that light upside down triangle
sometimes I try something new
every time I draw a face I discover something new that I did not do or
experiment before, it's quite fascinating
I'm creating the shadows of the under the eyes
what makes the face realistic
are all the shadows
the natural lines that a human face has in real life
one of the difficulties that I had as I began. well I begin quite little.
things I faced as I started was that I hardly drew shadows or wrinkles as I started
and I have compared as a kid to the drawings
as I grew older I have realized that I love drawing shadows and wrinkles
as they gives the face character.
every face has some sort of characteristics
and that makes the face quite interesting super interesting.
so I'm drawing the shadows, the hairline, the semi widow's peak.
every face is made up differently and that is what is so beautiful about the human form
again I'm just drawing a little bit of the hair.
I'm going to speed up the hair right now
so I am about done with the drawing part of the two faces and I'm going to lay down the
materials that I used
thank you again for watching
this is the first part
please comment below. if you have any questions I would gladly answer all of your questions
please stay tuned for the second part as I will be showing you
how I shade the face in with watercolor
see you on the next video
