My name is Markus Grasselt. And I'd like to present my Rubik's Cube to you.
It was developed for the module 'Game Console Programming' at the University of Applied Sciences Trier in the B.Sc. degree program for game development.
It was a single person project. The purpose was to learn developing for game consoles.
The assignment was to develop a Rubik's Cube for the Playstation Portable.
I have added some options...
You can select between three difficulty levels: Easy, Normal and Hard.
The difficulty levels change the number of rotations, that are performed randomly during the initialisation.
I'll set it to easy so I'm able to solve the cube.
You can also select between different cube sizes.
You can vary the size from 2x2x2 to 5x5x5 in the options...
but it would also have been possible to allow higher cube sizes.
I just limited the sizes to those that I thought would make sense.
I'll just take the standard size of 3x3x3.
And confirm the selection with 'X'.
There are 2 gameplay modes you can choose.
I wanted to add a 'Techno Kitten Mode' but there wasn't enough time left.
In the normal mode the cube starts with random rotations and the goal is to solve the cube.
In the freeplay mode you get the cube solved and there is no end. You can play as long as you want to.
We'll start the normal mode. And you'll see in a moment that I changed the difficulty of easy. So I'm able to show you the end of the game.
You can rotate the camera completely free around the cube with the analog stick.
A vertical row according to the camera view gets selected.
If you want to rotate a row you can switch to selection mode with 'X'.
The selection can be switched with the right and left keys.
We can get back to overview mode with the circle key. And rotate the camera around the cube.
In selection mode we can switch between a vertical and horizontal selection by pressing the shoulder keys.
We can solve the cube with one rotation.
To rotate a vertical selection we can use the keys up and down.
For a horizontal selection it would be left and right.
Ok, wrong direction. :)
Alright, now let's solve it so you can see the amazing end of the game.
But first let me turn up the volume, so we have some sound.
You can hear a sound when you are rotating a row.
Yes. The cube explodes... we are amazing. :)
Ok, now I'll show you the game start with a higher difficulty and a 5x5x5 cube.
The random number generator isn't really good. But we achieve a much higher difficulty.
I don't know how to solve this. But luckily I can get back to the main menu by pressing start.
Lets take a look at the freeplay mode.
As you can see you just get the cube and can rotate around as long as you like.
There is no end in this mode.
This was my Rubik's cube. I hope you liked it. I had fun developing it. Bye
