(Female Host) David, another beloved common name derivative of Hebrew culture.
(Male Host) The David in the Bible was the first person on record to have the
name, and he was awesome. He is known as the one who defeated the giant
Goliath with just a sling and a rock. He then became the King of Isreal in the
tenth century BC, and it is said that Jesus Christ was a descendent of David.
(Female Host) Saint David is the patron saint of the country Wales, where, in
the sixth century, he founded many monastaries and is said to have performed
several miracles.
(Male) History is riddled with Davids. There were two King Davids of Scotland,
and a Scottish philosopher named David Hume who immensely influenced
philosophical movements of the 1700s.
(Female Host) Also in the late 1700s was David Crockett, best known by his
nickname Davy Crockett, who was a strong US patriot and state legislator of
Tennessee.
(Male) I used to watch a show about him when I was growing up.
(Female Host) And then of course there's David Bowie, the international pop
star from the 1970s.
(Male) There are even cities that hold the name of David all over the world.
